ARLINGTON

I never thought that this is where I'd settle down,
I thought I'd die an old man back in my hometown,
They gave me this plot of land, me and some other men, for a job well done,
There's a big white house sits on a hill just up the road,
The man inside he cried the day they brought me home,
They folded up a flag and told my mom and dad, we're proud of your son

Chorus:
And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property,
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company,
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done,
I can rest in peace, I'm one of the chosen ones, I made it to Arlington

I remember daddy brought me here when I was eight,
We searched all day to find out where my granddad lay,
And when we finally found that cross,
He said, "son this is what it cost to keep us free"
Now here I am, a thousand stones away from him,
He reconized me on the first day i came in,
And it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels, and saluted me.

(Repeat Chorus)

And everytime I hear twenty-one guns,
I know they brought another hero home to us

We're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done,
We can rest in peace, 'cause we are the chosen ones,
We made it to arlington, yeah dust to dust,
Don't cry for us,we made it to arlington.

Review about Arlington

Sacred Ground | Reviewer: Jim | 10/19/09

My daughter is currently serving in the middle east. She is an American soldier and is proud to be that to her core as am I of her. If, God forbid, anything happens. This sacred ground is where she will rest with the rest of the heroic men and women who put it all on the line for us. God Bless every one of them past, present and future. Anyone that thinks our freedom isn't paid for in blood needs to come here before they open their mouths.

My father in arlington | Reviewer: Debbie | 4/30/08

My father spent 31 years defending this country and is buried in Arlington. When I heard this song my husband and I cried and cried. He is a retired Master Chief and my Dad was a retired SGM. Trace Adkins, I salute you for making such a beautiful song and singing it with such conviction. You are just great. I listen to it everyday and I have a cross for my dad out in the back-yard and I light a candle for him every night. I miss him so much as his death was so untimely, we had no time to prepare. I still cant believe he is gone. I get so sad, but at least I cry to the song you sang. I love you and admire you, SIR Debbie Hibbs and Master Chief Tim Hibbs (ret)

Touches the Heart | Reviewer: Nikki | 9/19/05

This song hits you when you heard it. I cannot listen to it with out tearing up a little. My husband is active Navy and so many of our family members are active military. Everyone that has fought for this country or knows someone who has fought for this country can relate to that song.

Today I heard this song for the first time. I cought my attention. You here so many songs about war and 9-11. But this one says it all without trying.Trace Adkins is a great singer and for him to put his thoughts into a song like this really comes from the heart. To tell you how much this touched me it didn't take much to make my eyes water. I not only lost two great granddad's in war. But my father is currently a sargent in the military. Thats all i've known my dad to do. He is been in there for 24 years. The song just makes you think. How thankfull for everything that they do. Thank you trace for expressing your feelling and a lot of ours as well.

touching to the heart | Reviewer: Summer | 6/5/05

this song hits you in your heart and you can picture it in your mind. so many people can say so many words that are similar in meaning and feeling, but none can completely put into words the gratitude and pure admiration for those who have passed for us. thank you Mr Adkins for putting these words into song for all of us to read, sing and pass on, so that so many more will feel the devotion you have for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for everyone else to live and be where they are today.
