Anywhere But Here Lyrics - Rise Against

Review The Song (10)

We've been alright up until now,
But the air that we breathe is about to run out.
We've rehearsed our lines clear and loud,
But the cue never came and the lights,
They never went down.
So we're passing the time,
While time passes us.
The fast lanes a term never applied to us.
Without a dime to my name,
Or a prayer in the world.
I walk out the door.

Destination anywhere but here.
Away from you.

Now I'm on my way to the other side,
(On my way)
I'll forget everything I left behind.
(On my way)
These empty rooms,
(On my way)
Are still filled with you.
(On my way)

So I dropped out of my own race,
A race with no finish line,
No first or last place.
These faces all rush right past me.
I turn and walk away,
Cause we finally know now what our
Time here's about, we were not meant to be
Another face in the crowd.
We're a forest of lives,
But we grow tall and wide.
We'll never be cut down.

Destination anywhere but here.
Away from you.

Now I'm on my way to the other side,
(On my way)
I'll forget everything I left behind.
(On my way)
These empty rooms,
(On my way)
Are still filled with you.
(On my way)

I'm so tired and turned around and scared.
I'm lying in empty beds again.
I'll wait for you to come
To your senses, barbed-wire fences
Won't keep me from breaking through.
I swear I will to you.

Now I'm on my way to the other side,
(On my way)
I'll forget everything I left behind.
(On my way)
These empty rooms,
(On my way)
Are still filled with you.
(On my way)

I'm so tired and turned around and scared.
I'm lying in empty beds again.
Away from you.

This song is so perfect, it's so adaptable, for example a girl who I'd known for about 5 years, went through everything with her, I finally got the courage to ask her out, we were happy for about two months, and then she split up with me, this song became the only thing i listened to for about another month, she was already with someone else, it broke what was left of my heart, and this song just describes it perfectly, I cannot wait until I leave school and start college, because I can escape, and lose the burden of all of it.
But yea, good song :) really hits hard when you can understand it for its meaning, not just the epic instrumentals.

I was listening to this song once, after it being a favourite of mine for over a year, and realised that it was about dying.

Obviously, there are different ways people will interpret the song; and that's cool. I think it's a great song, one of the best on the album. The intro riff is glorious. I think this song captures the feeling of leaving this world, the ones you love, in all it's peace and sadness and meaninglessness. There's a kind of bittersweet, nostalgic hope about it. To me, that's death. That's crossing to the other side.

One of my favourite songs off the Siren Song of the Counter Culture album :)

To me it covers a wide range of issues such as something that sounds environmental (air that we breathe is about to run out) to the whole hurt some people mention (not necessarily relationship hurt in my opinion). I think it also talks about society in a way (not meant to be a face in the crowd) and "I dropped out of my own race" could even talk about achievement o_O.

Yeah I got a lot of interpretations of the song lol, but overall once again another amazing song by Rise Against and one I could listen to over and over ;p

I remember listening to this song at the very end of my last day of school. I was walking home with a wide smile and it felt so right, leaving that place forever.
It's not that I had a terrible time during high school, but I was just so glad it was over.

It reminds me of a relationship i had with an amazing girl and after we broke up and she lead me on for ages making me think she wanted to get back together with me and after all that i just wanted to get away from her forever.

Strong meaning. It finally ends for whatever reason after tons of hardships, it's a shame but you do the thing you should do and walk away. it hurts, but you continue to go.

I dont think its a sad song over-all. Moreover I think it has a good balance. I guess it just depends on how you feel at the time.. if your done with your broad but miss her.. good song.. if your not done and miss her... good song.. if your done and dont give a shit.. still good

i don't quite get the message. But if you feel sad and lonely, then this song is really good.

Love rise against!!
