In the beginning of the 1980s in the US a great many bands
were formed who took their inspiration from the New Wave of
British Heavy Metal. Among the most gifted of those were
bands like TWISTED SISTER, MÖTLEY CRÜE, WASP,
MANOWAR and of course Anthrax.

Anthrax was formed back in 1981 by two guitarists Scott Ian
and Dan Lilker. They had been classmates at the Bayside
school in the Queens area of New York. Both of them already
had a certain experience on stage; they played in FOUR X

I've read the novella "Apt Pupil" by Stephen King, which was what this song was based off of, and I have to say I was very very impressed. The way they incorporated the apt pupil's cry of "King of the World" (long before De Caprio made it his catchphrase), five hours to bring him down (last line in the novella), and the turn of events in the last set of lyrics, it was all incredible. I've been listening to it all day since I finished the novella last month and it keeps getting better and better.

this was the first song i ever listened to by anthrax, and at first i hated it, but just like slayer, it was an aquired sound to me. now i love anthrax and slayer (not to mention metallica, megadeth, guns n roses, ACDC, Iron maiden, System of a down, overkill, disturbed, wow the list goes on and on...

This is a song that you can listen to over and over, never tiring of it. It's really great! The main riff is a bit repetitive, however. The lyrics are perfect. Many well thought out lyrics, such as the classic "Who says that my life's such a crime?" Alongside "White fills my eyes, and only then they see the light!" This is some of Anthrax's best work. This whole album is prefect in every sense. It's their Master of Puppets. It's their Reign in Blood. Buy "Spreading the Disease," NOW! GO! FLEE!
