------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
I think that this song is deep and calming, it gives everyone something to see in it, because in some way every situation has it's own relation to this song, I love this song!
It's gotten me threw the hardest of times.
I think the first verse could be about rehab or abortion, er something along those lines.
Second verse is obviously about alcohol.
Third & So on; Realization and acception.
I think she gave up trying to run away, when she knows there is no way to get away from any of it.

------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
Fort Bliss is a real Army base, Alcholism is a rapent problem in the military, often when soldiers get deployed they come back with varying degrees of PTSD or post traumatic stess disorder and the alcholism often times only becomes worse, PTSD is a serious problem and a lot of guys wind up getting out on it so the second verse could vary well be about a soldier or former soldier she knows and how between the PTSD and the alcholism the boy is never happy and its just a shame

this song, wether or not based on suicide doesnt really matter, is probaly one of the best songs to perform to ( with any relation to dance/ colorguard/ choir, etc) more specifically colorguard, and to be even more specific with theperformer, Kenneth Galloway, probably the only person able to pull it off. What a hoss! LOL, congrats kenny on winning!

------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
All right, here's what I think of it: first verse: A girl who fell for a guy that had some drug problems, and, when they "walk through the doors", it's a alcohol support group, (follow?) but first she says she doesn't love him. THEN, the second verse, it's talking about him and his alcohol problem, and the songwriter is talking about how he can't rewind time. And, the "mistakes" are all the drugs he's been doing. At the end, when she's talking about how it's her diary, it really is her diary. The Girl at the beginning is the songwriter's friend, who was dating a guy who had drug problems. And she was still awake at two A.M. writing about it all. That's how I took it.

This song is not about abortion or alcoholism in peticular, it's about the strugles we all face in life whether we're girls or boys and no matter who we are, we all share the same feelings sometime. She's using different stories to express her inner emotions which is her "diary" and she does the best she can but because they are just examples of situations in which people may feel helpless she know's that it may not be easy to understand and people will read whatever they wnt into it.
Breath.. Abortion? | Reviewer: Ashley
------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
Me and my friend somehow brought up the subject of this song today, it got me thinking.
I agree, i think that the first stanza is about a girl going to an abortion clinic, although, the first time i heard it i took the first stanza as just another mistake a girl made, i guess i didn't dig deeper. No i understand, so this girl walks into the abortion clinic, and all the people are looking at her wierd, even thought they're all there for the same reason, and she's embarrased to be there, but shouldn't be because the people who see her are there too.
Okay, when she say "she calls me because i'm still awake", it's her contimplating herself and the mistake she made inside her head, not actually getting a call...
and of course the second part is alcholism.
I just never connected the two, but i do see how they could be related.
The song can be taken various ways, and that's why i think so many people find little ways to relate to it. Overall, one of the best songs ever.
New spin | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
Let me give a whole new spin on what I think this song is about. I think she is getting a divorce and they are walking into the court room.
Someone said that Fort Bliss is a generic base camp, but it is real. Fort Bliss is a United States Army post in the U.S. states of New Mexico and Texas.
In the song she said
(May he turned 21 on the base at Fort Bliss Just a day," he said down to the flask in his fist,
"Ain't been sober, since maybe October of last year")
I think she has a abusive husband..... He starting drinking at 21 and his fist ain't been sober.
Alice's humble opinion | Reviewer: Alice19
------ About the song Drink Me performed by Anna Nalick
I dont know about the whole song being about suicide. it doesnt quite say that to me. only the artist knows for sure, but here's what i've thought about it.
well there's the obvious "drink me" from Alice's adventures in wonderland.
then... Coltrane is a musician, as is Kurt Cobain (who, its said, is the mascot for that generation). not sure what the connection between the two is other than that their names rhyme. ^^:
Plath and Joplin were artists who wrote suicide notes.
Kennedy and Monroe, aside from having an alleged fling, have some conspiracy around their deaths (as with Kurt Cobain who imho was killed, but thats a topic for another day. see courtney love's dad's book on it). Kennedy with the grassy knoll ("back, and to the left") and Monroe with the drug overdose enema (kinky?).
the rest of it could be a ref. to another book as a previous poster suggested, east of eden. as i have not yet read this book, i cannot confirm or deny. however, the other parts of this song that i have listed i believe to be the references.
as to the overall statement made by the song? well... hard one, but i'd have to go with a person who is drifting away from another "there will come a day when you wont know my name."
the song and abortion | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
I think the 1st verse is about abortion, and the second alcoholism.
And to me its saying that you cant run from pregnancy by having an abortion. In the line "your just as far in as you'll ever be out" I take it as you are a mother now and nothing can change that, no matter if the baby is dead or alive. In the line "these mistakes that you've made you'll just make them again, if you only try turning around" means to me if you never face the consequences of your actions you will continue to make mistakes. And basically the same meaning for the alcoholism, just change the situation from abortion to facing your problems with using.
my take was abortion as well | Reviewer: anon.
------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
I always thought the first verse was about abortion, i never really related the first and second verses to eachother but some of these reviews make sense of it.
This is mine and my best friends song. "2am and she calls me cos I'm still awake, can you help me unravel my latest mistake- I don't love him"
story of our lives really.
This song is amazing.
deep | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
I think this song is even deeper then we think it is, cause abiously anna have her part in the story, like when she was still awake at 2am when her freind called her, or when she uses 'we' in the 1'st verse :"Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes"
and at the last verse she admits that by singing the song she feels like she's naked in front of the crowd, like she's confessing her darkest secret or something.
so the song may be about one of her freinds going through the obortion stuff, but anna have a biggest role in the story that I still can't quite figure out yet..

Oh, it's about a book? Oh, I so wanna read it now! Me and my sister love this song so much. It's not widely advertised, but a beautiful song. Of course, I like the accoustic version better. But it's awesome. You got the lyrics correct.

i don't think verse 1 (obviously abortion) and verse 2(a drunken guy anna always see's on the coner or where-ever) are related. i think she is just telling diffrent stories. But if they are related, I can see how it would relate (him being the father who still loves her) Awesome song. I love it... it's great especially when your're feeling down and need to shout or sing it all out!
abortion yes but I think you have the subject screwed up | Reviewer: Not Anon
------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
I can see the first verse being about abortion, but it sounds to me more like it's her friend calling her because the friends pregnant... 2nd verse I was thinking was a good friend of hers with a drinking problem...
Whatever. It's good that a song can have so many different meanings... it gets people thinking

rawrr D: I typed this once and it went all malfunction on me.
it's about suicide. it makes it a very dark, but beautiful song.
Sylvia Plath is known to have attempted suicide, as well as Kurt Cobain if that's what you believe.
[East of Eden Spoilers]
In East of Eden, Cathy wears a bottle of poison around her neck. When she was little, she used to pretend that she had the Eat Me/Drink Me from Alice in Wonderland, but she saved a little Drink Me, because if she drinks it all, she'll get so small that she'll disappear completely, and that's what she's thinking of when she drinks the poison in the end.
I think it is about Alcoholism | Reviewer: Patrick
------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
I think the song is about alcoholism. At 2 Am she calls her sponsor and tells her about the mistake she made to drink or use drugs again. When she walks through the doors she is going back to meetings and unfortunately when you relapse people do look at you like there is something wrong with you. They would by hypocritical because it does happen and people try to make themselves feel better because they didn't go back out.
Times like an hourglass refers to the fact that no one can change what they did, and if you keep looking back at all your mistakes it will just happen again.
The Ft. Bliss part is where they see a young guy at a AA meeting dealing with his issues (maybe from the war) and she wants to hold him and make him feel better, but she can't because he has to figure it out on his own. This song reminds so many people about so many different things I think it is wonderful. I am a recovering Ex Army drug addict and when I heard this song this is what I thought it meant.
Lifes mistakes... | Reviewer: Dustie
------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
First verse: abortion. She wants to be accompanied to have this "mistake" taken care of. Everyone looks at her, because well, that's what happens when you go to an abortion clinic. The criticize you but they are there for the same reason, or something close to anyway. She fell in lust with a soldier, and the outcome was her being pregnant.
Chorus: pretty self explanatory.
2nd verse: Father of the baby. He fell in love with the girl, but she didn't feel the same way, he drinks to make the pain go away. I'm assuming he finds out she is pregnant and having an abortion, making him feel even more lonely. The song speaks of his beautiful smile which I would imagine is what the girl was attracted to.
So just breathe. That's all you can do because you can't go back. And in most cases even if you did you would repeat the things you did because they were wonderful at the time.
What songs REALLY about: | Reviewer: Jessica.
------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
This song is about anna's friend calling her at 2am because she's about to have her mistake, which is a baby. She doesn't even love the guy who got her pregnant, winter just wasn't her season cause that's when it happened. When they walk in the doors of the hospital, people give her nasty looks because she is so young, when they need to stop judging cause they are there for the same reason.
Then the chorus is stating that you can jump the tracks were like cars on a cable, meaning you got on this ride, and you have to follow the path it's on. An hour glass glued to the table means, your stuck in this position. You can't find the rewind button, so you can't go back and fix this. just breathe, meaning have the baby.
In the second verse, it describes the baby's father. He's a soilder who seems to be a drunk all the time. Then when he visits, and is town, the friend shows the father his son who smiles, and the father doesnt want anything to do with the child.
And in the third verse, it's saying that there no point in trying to fix this mistake, to go back in time and erase it cause you'll just do it again and wont learn from it.
Overall, it's a great song.
