------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
One thing I love about this song is you can interpret it how ever it fits your life. It can mean so many things, every one different for each person. Whatever your life story, you can probably fit it to this song. You could be the desperate friend, the boy at fort bliss, or the narator of the song. This is how the best songs are written. No deffinet meaning. Have fun connecting this song to your own life and interpret it how ever its best for whats going on in your life:)

------ About the song Drink Me performed by Anna Nalick
My perception of the meaning of this song is: I can definitely see how suicide can be a major component. But I believe the more important meaning is self medication related to a broken heart/ depression related to being hurt by someone close to you. The person she is portraying in this song is hurt, "jealous"; and she states this......" will you miss me ever", "i'll disappear". The hurt is represented by the comparison of life to "a barbed wire necklace". Self medication is stated in this piece: " when the truth gets scary, I'll take my gin and sherry.". It tells of complete despair, with one believing life is not the main drive, but despair. Believing death would be a welcome release.
2nd Verse | Reviewer: Beth
------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
Fort Bliss is a real Army base, Alcholism is a rapent problem in the military, often when soldiers get deployed they come back with varying degrees of PTSD or post traumatic stess disorder and the alcholism often times only becomes worse, PTSD is a serious problem and a lot of guys wind up getting out on it so the second verse could vary well be about a soldier or former soldier she knows and how between the PTSD and the alcholism the boy is never happy and its just a shame
Slightly Confused.... | Reviewer: NO-Name
------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
All right, here's what I think of it: first verse: A girl who fell for a guy that had some drug problems, and, when they "walk through the doors", it's a alcohol support group, (follow?) but first she says she doesn't love him. THEN, the second verse, it's talking about him and his alcohol problem, and the songwriter is talking about how he can't rewind time. And, the "mistakes" are all the drugs he's been doing. At the end, when she's talking about how it's her diary, it really is her diary. The Girl at the beginning is the songwriter's friend, who was dating a guy who had drug problems. And she was still awake at two A.M. writing about it all. That's how I took it.
Breath.. Abortion? | Reviewer: Ashley
------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
Me and my friend somehow brought up the subject of this song today, it got me thinking.
I agree, i think that the first stanza is about a girl going to an abortion clinic, although, the first time i heard it i took the first stanza as just another mistake a girl made, i guess i didn't dig deeper. No i understand, so this girl walks into the abortion clinic, and all the people are looking at her wierd, even thought they're all there for the same reason, and she's embarrased to be there, but shouldn't be because the people who see her are there too.
Okay, when she say "she calls me because i'm still awake", it's her contimplating herself and the mistake she made inside her head, not actually getting a call...
and of course the second part is alcholism.
I just never connected the two, but i do see how they could be related.
The song can be taken various ways, and that's why i think so many people find little ways to relate to it. Overall, one of the best songs ever.
Alice's humble opinion | Reviewer: Alice19
------ About the song Drink Me performed by Anna Nalick
I dont know about the whole song being about suicide. it doesnt quite say that to me. only the artist knows for sure, but here's what i've thought about it.
well there's the obvious "drink me" from Alice's adventures in wonderland.
then... Coltrane is a musician, as is Kurt Cobain (who, its said, is the mascot for that generation). not sure what the connection between the two is other than that their names rhyme. ^^:
Plath and Joplin were artists who wrote suicide notes.
Kennedy and Monroe, aside from having an alleged fling, have some conspiracy around their deaths (as with Kurt Cobain who imho was killed, but thats a topic for another day. see courtney love's dad's book on it). Kennedy with the grassy knoll ("back, and to the left") and Monroe with the drug overdose enema (kinky?).
the rest of it could be a ref. to another book as a previous poster suggested, east of eden. as i have not yet read this book, i cannot confirm or deny. however, the other parts of this song that i have listed i believe to be the references.
as to the overall statement made by the song? well... hard one, but i'd have to go with a person who is drifting away from another "there will come a day when you wont know my name."
my take was abortion as well | Reviewer: anon.

I always thought the first verse was about abortion, i never really related the first and second verses to eachother but some of these reviews make sense of it.
This is mine and my best friends song. "2am and she calls me cos I'm still awake, can you help me unravel my latest mistake- I don't love him"
story of our lives really.
This song is amazing.

Oh, it's about a book? Oh, I so wanna read it now! Me and my sister love this song so much. It's not widely advertised, but a beautiful song. Of course, I like the accoustic version better. But it's awesome. You got the lyrics correct.
abortion yes but I think you have the subject screwed up | Reviewer: Not Anon
------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
I can see the first verse being about abortion, but it sounds to me more like it's her friend calling her because the friends pregnant... 2nd verse I was thinking was a good friend of hers with a drinking problem...
Whatever. It's good that a song can have so many different meanings... it gets people thinking
I think it is about Alcoholism | Reviewer: Patrick
------ About the song Breathe (2 AM) performed by Anna Nalick
I think the song is about alcoholism. At 2 Am she calls her sponsor and tells her about the mistake she made to drink or use drugs again. When she walks through the doors she is going back to meetings and unfortunately when you relapse people do look at you like there is something wrong with you. They would by hypocritical because it does happen and people try to make themselves feel better because they didn't go back out.
Times like an hourglass refers to the fact that no one can change what they did, and if you keep looking back at all your mistakes it will just happen again.
The Ft. Bliss part is where they see a young guy at a AA meeting dealing with his issues (maybe from the war) and she wants to hold him and make him feel better, but she can't because he has to figure it out on his own. This song reminds so many people about so many different things I think it is wonderful. I am a recovering Ex Army drug addict and when I heard this song this is what I thought it meant.
