Review The Song (61)

Spoken:

Following September 11th last year, everybody that was a poet or writer or a
song writer of any kind had a reason to write some words down or some thoughts
down on a piece of paper. And I was no different than anybody else, that's
what you do when you do what I do. And Uhh

My father served in the army in the 50's he lost his eye in a training combat
mission. He came home he put up a flag at the farm I was raised on. I lost
him six months prior to the attacks on New York City and the United States and
Uhh that flag flew out there in that yard and it's flown there every day.

He raised me right and he never bitched one time about losing his eye. Never
heard him cry about it one time, he was glad to go do it, that's why we're free
today and it's our turn to stand on what our fathers and fore fathers did for
us and make sure we don't let them down.

I wrote a song in the following days after September 11th it's called the
"Angry American" and I want to send it out to my father tonight.

Sang ....

American Girls and American Guys
We'll always stand up and salute
We'll always recognize
When we see Ole Glory Flying
There's a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our head

My daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Till the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free.

Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flying in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly
And there's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringing her bell
And itll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Ahhh Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Ohhh Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you'll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
'Cause we'll put a boot in your ass
It's the American way

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly
And there's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringing her bell
And itll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Uhhh Ohhh
Of the Red, White and Blue
Ohhh Ohh Oh
Of My Red, White and Blue

ur shameful | Reviewer: will | 8/11/11

President bush did the right thing deploying troops in the middle east it was living hell before we went and it will be once we leave to but it was an act of war flying those planes killing so many people my best friends dad was almost on the plane that flew into the twin towers but his watch saved his life. Now the united states is blood thirsty and we won't leave until those sons of a barnicle are gone.

Shameful | Reviewer: no reply | 7/12/11

Mr. Keith was savvy to capitalize on people's mis-directed anger, but the song, both for its hateful message and its low-brow Pavlovian 3-chord propaganda is shameful.
There are always civilian deaths in a war, and by all accounts the U.S. took more than a Million lives in Iraq and countless more in Afghanistan - not to mention the lives of U.S. soldiers and their families these wars have wrecked. Iraq never attacked the U.S., nor did Iraq "harbor" the 9-11 culprits. Even by the official reports the perps were Saudi nationals. Many Iraqis say they are NOT better off now than under Saddam. The whole war was a travesty - an attrocity - a crime against humanity. The U.S. has a great deal of innocent blood on its hands, thanks, in part to people like Mr. Keith and his fans who supported the un-just war with no regard for the human cost.

I love this song and I love the performance. This song means a lot to me, I lost 4 family members and my brother lost both his legs because they all got sent to Iraq for war. Iraq and Iran can kiss my ass! I LOVE USA!!!

Angry italian | Reviewer: Pietro | 7/27/10

I definitely like this song. It talks about everyting the true american spirit is about: patriotism, love for the freedom, bravery and eventually...justice. I live in a european country called Italy, where, because of residual pseudo-communist ideologies, all the values have been forgotten or, perhaps more simply, have never existed. That's why, despite my nationality, i like to define myself an 'American inside'. God bless u, American people!

to everyone | Reviewer: seth webber | 3/17/10

I don't know what's wrong with you other people. This is one of the greatest songs of all time in my opinion. I'm a rocker, I hate listening to cowboys sit around and cry in their music. But When I heard this song, I had to listen to it again and again. Who cares that it was written about 9/11, we'll put a boot in whoever the fuck tries to mess with us's ass too.

And on a sidenote from reading what some uninformed(people that don't know what they are talking about) 9/11 was tied to Iraq and nuclear weapons threats happened after we were already there. After we initially infiltrated Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia, we soon learned that Iran and Iraq were like the holy lands of terrorism. So we tried to stop the problem at its source. That's when all went to hell since the small amount of troops we had there were spread out and not a very powerful force. Even if we have the best in the world, this is why there were battalions in previous wars, we work better in large groups. Why this is so hard to understand, I just don't get. But this is a song review of one of the best country songs out there(definately in the top 5 of overall) not a lecture on the game of war works.

You people that play call of duty only see one persons suffering, but they overcome it. Things like that are happening everyday, except they're dieng just like you do, they just don't restart at a checkpoint. Real life is 200x worse at least. Try watching stories about soldiers in WWII think that was rough? Try the ones overseas. I'm done with the ignorant group of you people btw. Don't try emailing me about any retarded crap like this or I will block your ass faster than a cheetah on crack.

Also: to whoever changed the name of the song to The Courtesy Of The Red, White, and Blue; skrew off, Tobys Angry American was a much better fitting title.

don't like these kinds of songs... | Reviewer: a | 3/13/10

@lainey, I agree with pretty much everything you said, this song definitely influences too much patriotism.
@damara, you are obviously very ignorant and don't know much about what is going on in the war. First of all, you continuously wrote 'Obama'...I'm guessing you meant 'OSAMA Bin Laden' and weren't referring to our president...secondly, the war in Iraq has nothing to do with 9/11, thats the reason we gave for going to war in Afghanistan. We really did just decide to attack Iraq for no apparent reason (weapons of mass destruction as they claim) but to get oil.

WTF are people thinking...It is an AMAZING SONG | Reviewer: N. Collier | 12/17/09

so i agree dmara...except for the part about obama...i dont think obama is up anything...i think if we just let it stand for a little and see what obama has planned..we might actually like it but i guess i cant really say anything cuz im only 15...but i od want to say...my uncle ray was killed after he served in the army by cancer...it was a hard time and i only knew him for 8 months before he died...this was because of the fact that he was in the army...

now i dont care what anyone else thinks about this but i personally like this song...it makes me cry every time i listen to it because i always think of my uncle...but like i said i would give it a five and i dont ccare what anyone else thinks cuz i am entitled to my opinion and i am going to give it...SO SCREW ALL OF YOU

Not bad, right up till the point we went to Iraq | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/20/09

At the time this was written, I was all for it. Personally, I think Afghanistan was the right thing to do, aside from the fact that things there are a complete mess in terms of human and womens rights. And after over three thousand people died in new york, I think we had a right to go and deal with things, since the Afghan government was only supporting and harboring those who commited the act.

Iraq however was idiocy. There was no solid proof on what they were supposedly doing, and the momment we set foot in there, our credibility as the ones who got attacked and who had the right for retribution went right out the window.

Thus, in the spirit of the song at the time it was written, I applaud Toby Keith. I just wish we hadn't gone and made an idiot out of ourselves by going to Iraq.
