An Evening Prayer Lyrics
Artist(Band):Jim Reeves
Review The Song (5)Print the Lyrics
If I have wounded some poor soul today,
If I have caused one foot to go astray,
If I have walked in my own willful way,
Dear Lord, forgive.

If I have uttered idle words in vain,
If I have turned aside from want or pain,
Lest I offend some other through the strain,
Dear Lord, forgive.

--- Instrumental ---

Forgive these sins I have confessed to Thee,
Forgive the secret sins I do not see,
Guide me, love me and my keeper be,
Dear Lord, forgive...

The Music and Lyrics to this Hymn were written by: C. Maud Battersby and the arrangement was done by Charles Hutchison Gabriel in 1911. I have the copy of the hymn somewhere in my files and I believe it was in the date was the late 1800's. The Instrumental can be found in the
Christian Classics Ethereal Hymnary #586
African American Heritage Hymnal. #366
African Methodist Episcopal Church Hymnal. #339

If the "Anonymous" writer of 4/27/07 knows the original writer, Cliff Ferking who had this song stolen in the 40s. and you show the song written in 1911 are we talking about the 1840s? No wonder he's anonymous, he is very old and probably has forgotten his name!

This Hymn was written by C. Maude Battersby in 1911

If I have wounded any soul today,
If I have caused one foot to go astray,
If I have walked in my own willful way,
Dear Lord, forgive!

If I have uttered idle words or vain,
If I have turned aside from want or pain,
Lest I myself shall suffer through the strain,
Dear Lord, forgive!

If I have been perverse or hard, or cold,
If I have longed for shelter in Thy fold,
When Thou hast given me some fort to hold,
Dear Lord, forgive!

Forgive the sins I have confessed to Thee;
Forgive the secret sins I do not see;
O guide me, love me and my keeper be,
Dear Lord, Amen.

If I have longed for shelter in Thy fold
When Thou hast given me some fort to hold
Dear Lord, forgive

I knew the man who composed the lyrics to this song. He had the words stolen from him back in the 40s. He was a friend of the family, named Cliff Ferking. I've always loved this song. My mother used to sing it to us when we were kids.
