Amie Lyrics

Performed by Damien Rice
Review The Song (29)

Nothing unusual nothing strange
Close to nothing at all

The same old scenario the same old rain
and there's no explosions here

Then something unusual something strange
comes from nothing at all

I saw a spaceship fly by your window
did you see it disappear?

Amie come sit on my wall and read me the story of Of O
Tell it like you still believe that the end of the century brings a change for you and me

Nothing unusual nothing's changed
Just a little older that's all

You know when you've found it there's something I've learned
'cause you feel it when they take it away hey hey

Then something unusual something strange
comes from nothing at all

But I'm not a miracle and you're not a saint
just another soldier on a road to nowhere

Amie come sit on my wall and read me the story of O
tell it like you still believe that the end of the century
brings a change for you and me

Amie come sit on my wall and read me the story of o
tell it like you still believe that the end of the century
brings a change for you and me

I'm not a miracle | Reviewer: ... | 9/29/11

I remember once I was listening to this song and I was on the phone with my boy friend and the volume was a bit high so he couldn't hear me properly. to the point the song reached to the violin in the end he lost his patience and shouted at me.. just turn that thing off so I could hear you...now he is gone because of religious differences...and what remains now are just sweet bitter memories...so I guess I only can say there's something I've learned cause you feel it when they take it away...

The meaning of "O" | Reviewer: Hamy | 3/23/11

"O" here means the end of the century (2000, 00). Remember that every one thought there will be explosions because computers are not ready for "00"? That's why he says "there's no explosions here". He is saying the century ended but there is no change, same old stories and goods and bads.

I listen to mostly hip-hop and rap, but this has recently become my favorite song. thanks for posting the album version.

and cuz I'm unfamiliar with this style of music (is it considered rock, or folk, or something else?) are there any other similar artists? My girlfriend (who told me about Damien) also recommend Amos Lee and I like him too.

thanks in advance for the help.

Amie | Reviewer: Amy | 5/25/10

I hav a friend, he used to like me, and so was i. But seems time is never right for us to be together.
We close but never come closer.
He always calls me 'amie' though my name is amy.
One time, i texted him. And he replied when he received mine, his ipod song was 'amie'
and he said its all about me.. :((

Its like you know you cant reach something you really want :((

wonderful | Reviewer: enrico | 4/15/10

I'm still istening to this song, really wonderful song, in a ad time for me. I'm thinking Amie is my pretty great dog, who's now in a veterinary clinic, fighting for his life. "I'm not a saint, but I hope he'll make the miracle, my great soul". Amie is always dedicated to him, hoping I will still listen this arrangment wiht his head on my shoulders.

Amazing lyrics and melody | Reviewer: Abraham | 4/12/10

I´ve just heard it in the morning in my headphones, and the strings secction got my atention, its is a great arrengment and the intense voice of Damian in the last chorus do the rest. I don´t think is for anyone in particular, I think is a song of hope when everything arround is getting depressing, Amie could be a lover or a friend, but is the name he choose for that special person to take him out of the hole, and show him some light... That would be mi intrpretation of the song. Anyway that is the beauty of music, you can take it the way you feel it, and I feel this way.
Great song!

Amie | Reviewer: Frank X | 1/17/10

I love this song because the sentimental attachments it has in my heart, by the interpretation I understand of it, by the meaning it better fits on my heart; Amie it's actually a french word (He uses a lot of french in his songs) that means "Friend" so I believe that he talks about a friend that he is in loved, but everything was just a friendship and he wants her like something more, and by that he can't be completely open like he wishes but with her he is more open than he is with everybody else(This last part I based it on thing that the same Damien Rice said about the song), the line "Tell it like you still believe that the end of the century brings a change for you and me" clearly speaks about how he want's to evolve the relationship even knowing that it won't happen, and "read me the story of Of O" most talk about the place he used to see her because O is the name of a french beach; and the reasons it has strong attachments to my heart is just because I had a similar story with someone, even her name sounds just like amie, strange coincidence thinking it well.

Story of O | Reviewer: Rob | 3/3/09

"This is a song about getting up in the morning and falling down the stairs on your way into the kitchen. And going into the kitchen with a really sore ankle. And taking some food out for breakfast and realizing that the yougurt has got fungus on the top. Then you decide, ok, I'll just have some fruit. The fruit's not particularly satisfying, because you're looking for something a bit more comfortable. There's a tin of beans, but you're just not inspired. You go out, to go down to the shops. You had a piece of an apple, but it had been sitting for too long so it wasn't particularly nice. So you get in the car and go down to the shops. You get in the car and on your way to the shops to pick up some stuff, and on your way to the shops you realize you forgot to bring money. You go back to the house, and by the time you get back to the house you're dizzy from being so hungry. You start getting really pissed off. Your mother calls, and its not the conversation you wanted to have right at that moment in time. You decide you're going to stay in and you're not going to eat anything because you're just fucked off. So you call a friend later on that day and she says "come on over to the house. Just get on the bus, and come on over to the house". So you get on the bus, go to your friends house. She says "what's up with you?" "I don't fuckin know, I'm just pissed off" And she's one of these people that it doesn't matter that you cursed at your mother earlier in the day or it doesn't matter if you're a dick, she just accepts you and likes you for who you are. At this point you're looking for anything to give you a bit of solace. And your friend says "hey look, why don't you stay the night here tonight? My bed is by a big massive window, you can just stare out at the stars." And for a moment, the guy in you goes "cool". And she continues talking, in mid sentence you had this thought and she says "yeah I'll stay up by my sister tonight." Anyways, so she tells you to look at the stars and just ask them for a sign, you know, she says "when you're really down, just ask them for a sign". Ever so mildy hippy, this girl. And so I remember lying there and kind of going "ok, goodnight" she closed the door. Waited a few minutes, looked at the stars. Everything went quiet. Spent a bit of time with myself. Felt a little bit better. Then decided to go to plan B, and started looking at the stars and said "Ok stars, give us a sign". And right at that moment where I said "common, just do something" there's a shooting star and I thought, "Fuck...cool!" but then I got cynical straight away. And I looked up and I said "Look, I've seen a fucking shooting star before, I want you to impress me tonight, I want you to show me something to really believe in". I don't know what happened, but something happened. I don't think I'd been drinking or, you know, under the influence of anything, but something very strange happened and the next day I wrote this song."
Damien Rice the Story of O

story of o | Reviewer: john | 2/16/09

i am not really sure what he is talking about here. "the story of o" is a very erotic tale about dominance and submission. the lyrics, "come sit on my wall, and read to me the story of o," are mysterious....just the way i like it.

my song :D | Reviewer: Aimee | 9/5/08

Oh I listen this song for first time and I love it, also I love it because my name is Aimee and that song reminds me that fact and now I say that it`s my song.
It´s really weird to found songs with the name Aimee and I love it, more because in Mexico the people found this name really weird.

Good? | Reviewer: KP | 7/12/08

Hah I might as well add my 2 cents to the rest of you people. Like pretty much everyone else I am in a situation just like in the song.. Which makes it extra nice to listen to because you have very strong feelings attached to the music.

Also, this is the song that made me decide to name my daughter Amy.

helpless memories | Reviewer: Kyle | 5/26/08

i found a girl. i thought she was perfect. my feelings got twisted by those around her. i slowly faded away before i could get hurt - or so i thought. it was the worst mistake of my life. i use to listen to this song with her at night when we were both together. such helpless memories now rest in my dreams. its almost impossible to listen to this song now but whenever it comes on no matter who im with or where i am, those memories and feelings get drowned in my tears. amazing song nonetheless and how powerful these lyrics can strangle your emotions. still... don't let good memories disappear.

Wat a song | Reviewer: Ogwar Stephen | 3/28/08

Extraordinary Song. | Reviewer: Robynne. | 2/15/08

I've had this song on my computer for months, but I've only just listened to it. The first time i heard it i broke down.
I once knew a truly amazing woman called amy (different spelling i know), and although I doubt we'll cross paths again, I just want her to know, that if she ever miraclously reads this, that I'm sorry. I REALLY screwed up, but right now, i need you more than ever, and i know i've used them words before, but this time i mean them with everything i have. You have no idea what's going on. I need you to tell me it's okay. I need you. I can't do this.
