Alanis Morissette Lyrics
Along with counterparts Jewel and Fiona Apple, Alanis
Morissette was one of the most successful
singer/songwriters to ride in on the second wave of grrrl
rock in the mid-'90s. Born on June 1, 1974, Alanis Nadine
Morissette and her two brothers were raised in Ottawa,
Canada by French-Canadian and Hungarian parents. By the age

Review about Alanis Morissette songs
Makes me cry | Reviewer: Silvia
------ About the song Perfect performed by Alanis MorissetteThis song makes me so sad. I never feel good enough for my parents. My sister and brother are always so much smarter than me, and I feel like my parents never respect and appreciate the few talents I have. I am smart, but I never measure up to my siblings. My parents only once said they were proud of me in my entire life, and that was because I had finally 'worked hard at something', not because I was actually good at it. So I really connect to this song. It makes me sad, but it's nice to know someone feels the way I do too. It's saved me from vague thoughts of suicide more than once.
Thank you, Alanis!
Not Necessarily | Reviewer: Silvia
------ About the song Your Congratulations performed by Alanis MorissetteThis song isn't necessarily about parental abuse or neglect, unless I'm currently being neglected, which I don't think I am. I struggle constantly for my parents to notice the good things I've done and not just think I'm worthless all the time, which I think. I've tried everything and thought everything in this song at many points throughout my life. All I've ever wanted was approval from my parents. But I'm very sorry that you experienced parental neglect/abuse, Barb, even if I don't feel this song is about that topic.
Duh! | Reviewer: Silvia
------ About the song Ironic performed by Alanis MorissetteThis song is all about irony, idiots! And in fact, she does say it's ironic. Near the end, she says
'And isn't it ironic?
Don't you think?
A little too ironic?
Yeah I really do think'

------ About the song That I Would Be Good performed by Alanis MorissetteI can connect to this song so much becauseI have some big self-esteem problems (and middle school doesn't help much) Also, Phoebe, it's nice to know that Alanis had an eating disorder, because I'm anorexic, so this song gives me hope- I feel if Alanis did it, so can I! I love this song!
Daddy Issues | Reviewer: Silvia
------ About the song Heart of the House performed by Alanis MorissetteI feel like this song isn't just commending her mother, but also criticizing her father, asking her sarcastically, 'Where is he? Why are you alone?' Am I the only one who gets feelings in general that Alanis had some troubles with her dad?
This Song is so True | Reviewer: Silvia
------ About the song Ironic performed by Alanis MorissetteOkay, first of all, all of the things mentioned ARE extremely ironic. Just wanted to say that, and also that everyone who said they weren't ironic are idiots. (sorry... nah, not really)
Second of all, I love this song because it is so true. Whenever I'm feeling sad that something worked out exactly opposite of what I wanted it to, I listen to it. It makes me feel better and reminds you that sometimes life really does have a funny way of screwing you over.
Relatable | Reviewer: Silvia
------ About the song Excuses performed by Alanis MorissetteI totally relate to this song! So many times have I just wanted to make an excuse, and it makes me feel safe, because I'm 'not to blame'. And although I'm getting better at admitting my excuses, I sometimes just want to retreat into the happy world of familiar excuses.
Major Connection | Reviewer: Silvia
------ About the song That I Would Be Good performed by Alanis MorissetteThis song definitely hits home for me, because I really struggle with my self-esteem, and middle school doesn't help a lot. I'm also anorexic, so this song gives me hope. It's nice to know, Phoebe, that Alanis also had an ED, because, if she can get over it, maybe so can I. Alanis is so amazing- she's one of those artists who make you feel as if they wrote a song specifically for you, she connects so much to what I'm going through at different points in my life.
Deeper Meaning | Reviewer: Silvia
------ About the song Eight Easy Steps performed by Alanis MorissetteI think Alanis is kind of making fun of those '8 step programs' that are supposed to fix all your problems, but sometimes just make it even worse when they fail. But there's also a deeper meaning, of how people try to lead you wrong, give you a false smile, and then ruin your life.

------ About the song Wunderkind performed by Alanis MorissetteEverybody here seems to think this song is the most philosophically sophisticated and morally uplifting thing since sliced bread. The girl can't even construct a coherent sentence! The whole thing is composed of broken fragments of references to moments in the movie and I TOTALLY see why it appeals to postmodern poetry fans (among whom, need I say, I do not number myself). But let's face it, people: like most postmodern poetry, it has no meaning except what you construct for it, so the credit belongs to your imagination, not the artist's.
The tune was very catchy, for all that, but stylistically the song was a very poor fit with the Narnia theme music. All the credits songs in all the Narnia movies seem to display the same discontinuity and it drives me crazy.
