Ain't Your Fairytale Lyrics - Sonata Arctica

Review The Song (10)

Ain't Your Fairytale
(Tony Kakko)

The ones who seek justice,
will pray for it all their lives...
They can and they will skin us all one day
oh can you hear them cries...
As far as the man can run from us
we're following the trail of blood...
So hunt my young ones...

I have always known the storm would come,
listen now, my young ones...
This is not a story I tell
of midnight, moon and sun...

Are you ready to walk the forbidden road,
learn again what we tried to forget...
(The dark can now take over you...)

We have a common past, an ancient bond
the people once broke...
We would only take what we need,
they would harvest our weak...

But they hunted us all,
we ended the last of them, thus far, ten lifetimes ago...
(In hopes of healing the sore...)
But the war still went on,

Preying for the moon,
Hiding for the day,
These might be our last times,
I ain't gonna see you taken away...

Heading for the dawn,
Of our way of life,
You're welcome to give it your best try...
Look me in the eyes, oh, wolver;
This ain't your fairy tale...

It took us many years to teach them
how to cry wolf...
We made the people serve the purpose;
those ignorant fools... (My young ones!)

Teach the ones below you something you've learned,
and learn from the ones above you;
fear is your deepest wisdom...
For these last days...

Preying for the moon,
Hiding for the day,
These might be our last days...
I ain't gonna see you taken away...

Heading for the dawn,
Of our way of life,
You're welcome to give it your best try...
Look me in the eyes, oh, wolver,
This ain't your fairy tale...

(Instrumental)

The ones who seek justice,
will pray for it all their lives...
They can and they will skin us all one day
oh can you hear them cries...
As far as the man can run from us
we're following the trail of blood...
So hunt my young ones...
The pack they have always feared is back...

(Instrumental)

On your last day, remember: we never die...
Death does not exist for us,
they don't fear the wolf, but the wild within,
no glory to the way this must end...
This is a story I told,
unfolding before you,

Preying for the moon,
Hiding for the day
These might be our last times...
I ain't gonna see you taken away...

Heading for the dawn,
Of our way of life,
You're welcome to give it your best try...
Look me in the eyes, oh, wolver,
This ain't your fairy tale...

The ones who seek justice,
will pray for it all their lives...
They can and they will skin us all one day
oh can you hear them cries...
As far as the man can run from us
we're following the trail of blood...
So hunt my young ones...
The pack they have always feared is back...

(Instrumental)

Awesome. | Reviewer: Elle | 1/14/11

@SA 4ever:
Sure they're related. Every album has at least one wolf-themed song.
Fullmoon from Ecliptica, Wolf & Raven from Silence, The Cage from Winterheart's Guild, Ain't Your Fairytale from Reckoning Night, both The Vice and It Won't Fade from Unia, and The Last Amazing Grays from The Days Of Grays.
Apparently it is quite comforting for Kakko to know at least what one song will be about when he faces writing a whole new album. And no, it's not just werewolves, but mere wolves in most of these "wolf songs" (except for this one and Fullmoon).

@Sonata Of Fire:
I have no idea why you love Reckoning Night and hate the following two albums so much. It's quite obvious this album has some progressive metal influences already. If you hate their subsequent progressive-ness so much, why would you prefer the album in which this sound change first comes to light?

Oh, and by the way, this is a great song. I love the way the wolves' anger transpires through the whole thing, it's incredibly vibrant. Thanks for the lyrics.

Every album is good! | Reviewer: SA 4ever | 12/13/10

@ Sonata of fire:
I do agree with that "Reckoning Night" is SA:s best album, but I don't see why "The Days of Grays" and "Unia" sucks. They are actually very good, and SA are not shit! "Caleb", "Paid In Full", "Good Enough Is Good Enough", most, if not all songs are good, even though I can agree to that it's not their best album.

"The Last Amazing Grays - Symphonic Version", from the single album, is one of my favorites and "The Days Of Grays", "Zeroes" and "Flag In The Ground" all come high on my list. Don't be negative and long for the past (Nightwish excluded, miss Tarja), look bright att the future and hunger for next SA-album instead! :)

Connections | Reviewer: SA 4ever | 12/6/10

Anyone else then me relating this to "The Last Amazing Grays"? I think "The Last Amazing Grays" is about the old wolf (the story-teller in this song) approaching death, since he is speaking about some pack "Hoping the young will lead the pack now", and so on. Just wondering if someone found any other songs related to this theme. It's quite SA to have stories continuing for many albums. Listen to "The End of this Chapter", "Don't say a Word" and "Juliet" for example. Anyway, SA pwns and will always do, I hope they come to Sweden soon :)

Excellent song | Reviewer: Faolan | 12/31/08

This is by far one of Sonata's best songs. The whole "nature's revenge" is simply profound and astounding, and the way Kakko makes us thing about our own natures and the damage we've done... it's amazing.

Also, the wolfsongs aren't about werewolves (that was only Fullmoon), they are about feral, real life wolves

Rules | Reviewer: Sonata Rlz | 11/20/07

God, Ain't you fairytale it's sonata's best song ever.
I love the way Tony always puts a message making us consider what we're doing to nature. And i also share he's fascination with werewolves =D

Ain't Your Fairytale | Reviewer: Nightime_Screamer | 9/7/07

This is another good example of what seems to be a theme in the genre, songs about nature taking revenge for what we have done "an ancient bond the people once broke". Past what the song says to me personally, it's just a fantastic track, thanks Tony!

Awesome | Reviewer: Cap'n Wushu | 7/25/07

Seems that Tony Kakko has an obsesion with werewolves.. Nice ^^ "Fullmoon" also talks about that. Check it out.

I liked the song, but couldn't understand half of the words. The song makes so much more sense now, thanks!
