In a key song on her eagerly awaited new album, Aimee Mann
poses the eternal $64,000 question: "How Am I Different?"
To which besotted fans, admiring critics, and her
felicitous fellow musicians might all be inclined to
answer: Let us count the ways.
She first rose to fame bucking an overbearing beau's
attempts at hush puppetry in 'Til Tuesday's "Voices Carry,"
and hasn't developed any more of a taste for conformity in
the years since -least of all with Bachelor No. 2, her
third solo album and first independent release. Mann
actually bought the album back from her previous label,
Interscope Records, rather than accede to their demands to
scrap parts of it in favor of recording more
hit-radio-friendly material. It won't come to any surprise
to her fans that the More...

------ About the song Today's the Day performed by Aimee Mann
This song is very lovely. I remember hearing it as a soundtrack song on the 2002 psychologic thriller "Enough", starring Jennifer Lopez, who stars as Slim. It was a good movie and I think the song reflected part of what was happening throughout the movie, the part where Slim takes her little girl Gracie to someplace safe where they could survive. It was really cool, somehow. I liked it.
I luv this song! A year ago my school did a christams concert and my class did this song. in the parts where it was talkine (i.e. Your a bad banana with a greasy black peal)different students were passed the mic to say the parts and I got too do the first one and last one! I adore this song for a play and concert!
My chorus group at school sung this for our Christmas concert, and it was a really fun, entertaining song, fun to both learn and perform. I constantly find myself singing this song, and I love it. My brother asks me to sing it whenever we go to a White Elephant gift exchange, so... it's a great holiday song. Thanks!!
What an amazing song. I siscovered it when I first watched an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer that showed this. It's a song that hails back to the good old days or rock with that amazing guitar solo.

An ode to all those who've stayed in a hopeless relationship hoping things will get better... | Reviewer: Barbara
------ About the song Humpty Dumpty performed by Aimee Mann
For a commercial artist, Aimee is damned good, with deeper lyrics and better melodies than most. In this tune, Aimee is approaching it from the angle of the messed-up half of the relationship, warning the one who loves her that it's hopeless and to get out while he can. She's given up on herself; her last concern is for him...that she will drag him down with her. The way that she's given up herself is what makes the song so sad, especially when we can see that the fact that she's a good enough person to not want to take anyone down with her shows that she is neither hopeless nor as "messed up" as she sees herself. There is psychological and moral conflict in it, too...the dilemma of the healthier half of this relationship. Should he accept her honesty and advice or should he take her honesty & caring for his well-being as an indication that this woman is one worth fighting to bring past "zero"? A beautiful, moving track, imho.

------ About the song Video performed by Aimee Mann
How can Aimee be so talented that she can take THREE repetitive chords and make them so catchy that this song completely haunts. This song is so flippin catchy, moving and memorable. That she only needed two verses and three chords to do it really demonstrates that her talent and ear are not fair to others.

------ About the album The Forgotten Arm performed by Aimee Mann
Aimee Mann is back with another brilliant album. She only makes brilliant albums or decidedly average albums and not only that they seem to come one after another so starting with Whatever (Brilliant debut), then I'm With Stupid (average), Bachelor No.2 (brilliant), Lost in space (average) ...
The forgotten arm offers nothing new that we don't already know about Aimee Mann great lyrics and great music to match.

------ About the song 'J' For Jules performed by Aimee Mann
It is quite possible that the driving force behind all of Aimee Mann's music has been her fascination with the melancholy, and her innate ability to equally well relate the most personal affairs of the heart to quality song lyrics. Aside from the obvious, it is easy to sense the deep reluctance with which Mann says goodbye to someone much closer than a friend while trying to paint a portrait of how she always thought of their relationship through the use of creative metaphor that doesn't play to the trite, cliche, or simple mindedness of other music of the same time. A powerful use of language to convey her deep sentiments of longing, loss and remembrance characterizes the construction of a song that has withstood the test of time.
