Afu Ra started rappin after Jeru The Damaja said to him
that he should start writing his own lyrics because he
always was singing somebody else's rhymes. This resulted in
"Mental Stamina"which was Afu´s first appearance as a
rapper. The track was a duet with him and Jeru and was
included on Jeru´s first album "The Sun Rises In The
East". After that he toured with Jeru and when it was time
for the Damaja´s second album the both of them went
to Europe on tour. This resulted in a record deal with D &
D Studios. In 1997 Afu released his first 12" called
"Whirlwind Thru Cities" which was produced by the master DJ
Premier. That track was mad hot and got air play on all
underground radio shows.
