Afu Ra started rappin after Jeru The Damaja said to him that he should start writing his own lyrics because he always was singing somebody else's rhymes. This resulted in "Mental Stamina"which was Afu´s first appearance as a rapper. The track was a duet with him and Jeru and was included on Jeru´s first album "The Sun Rises In The East". After that he toured with Jeru and when it was time for the Damaja´s second album the both of them went to Europe on tour. This resulted in a record deal with D & D Studios. In 1997 Afu released his first 12" called "Whirlwind Thru Cities" which was produced by the master DJ Premier. That track was mad hot and got air play on all underground radio shows.
Afu Ra which means "Body Of The Life Force" says that everything in his life is inspired by the Asiatic culture. This was the result after as he says too many karate movies. He got an black belt in Tai Chi and he also studies Taoism and Buddhism.
His album "Body Of The Life Force" is to be released in the year of 2000. It will feature appearances by M.O.P., Guru, Cocoa Bravaz and many others. Afu Ra has already got props from the underdogs now it´s his time to get some shine. Which he is well deserved of. |
