Admit it!
Despite your pseudo-bohemian appearance
And vaguely leftist doctrine of beliefs
You know nothing about art or sex
That you couldn’t read in any trendy New York underground fashion magazine
Prototypical non-conformist
You are a vacuous soldier of the thrift store Gestapo
You adhere to a set of standards and tastes
That appear to be determined by an unseen panel of hipster judges (bullshit)
Giving a thumbs up or thumbs down to incoming and outgoing trends and styles of music and art
Go analog baby, you’re so post-modern
You’re diving face forward into a antiquated path
It’s disgusting, its offensive, don’t stick your nose up at me
Yeah, what do you have to say for yourself
Whoah, whoah, whoah, whoah
Yeah, what do you have to say for yourself
Whoah, whoah, whoah, whoah
You spend your time sitting in circles with your friends
Pontificating to each other
Forever competing for that one moment of self-aggrandizing glory
In which you hog the intellectual spotlight
Holding dominion over the entire shallow pointless conversation
Oh, we’re not worthy
When you walk by a group of quote-unquote normal people
You chuckle to yourself patting yourself on the back as you scoff
It's the same superiority complex
Shared by the high school jocks who made your life a living hell
And makes you a slave to the competitive capitalist dogma
You spend every moment of your waking life bitching about
Yeah, what do you have to say for yourself
Whoah, whoah, whoah, whoah
And I say yeah, what do you have to say for yourself
Whoah, whoah, whoah, whoah
Cause I’m proud of my life and the things that I have done
Proud of myself and the loner I’ve become
You’re free to whine, it will not get you far
I do just fine, my car and my guitar
Proud of my life and the things that I have done
Proud of myself and the loner I’ve become
You’re free to whine, it will not get you far
I do just fine, my car and my guitar, yeah
Well let me tell you this, I am shamelessly self-involved
I spend hours in front of the mirror, making my hair elegantly disheveled
I worry about how this album will sell
Because I believe it will determine the amount of sex I will have in the future
I self medicate with drugs and alcohol to treat my extreme social anxiety
You are a faker (admit it)
You are a fraud (admit it)
Yeah, you’re living a lie (hey) living a lie (hey) you’re life is living a lie
You don’t impress me (admit it)
You don’t intimidate me (admit it)
Why don’t you bow down, get on the ground, walk this fucking plank (yeah!)
Yeah, what do you have to say for yourself
Whoah, whoah, whoah, whoah
And I say yeah (what do you..)
Proud of my life and the things that I have done
Proud of myself and the loner I’ve become
You’re free to whine, it will not get you far
I do just fine, my car and my..
Guitar, guitar go!
I drift drift drift drift drift yeah
I drift drift drift drift drift yeah oh
And I am done with this
I wanna taste the breeze of every great city
My car and my guitar
My car and my guitar
So you'll come to be, made of these, urgent unfulfilled
Oh no no no no no
When I'm dead I'll rest
When I'm dead I'll rest way still
When I'm dead I'll rest, I'll rest
When I'm dead I'll rest, I'll rest
When I'm dead I'll rest, I'll rest
When I'm dead I'll rest, I'll rest

Yeah so this song is basically just about everything said here, but another thing I took from the song is how people try too hard to be original. They're so worried about being "non-conformists" or whatever the hell they want to call it that they really have become conformists with the non-conformists. *.* Hahahah. Crazy stuff. Long story short, do whatever the hell works for you. If that's being an idiot to fit in, fine, just stop lying about it and saying you do that stuff because you like it.
i have an ex like this and this song is her through and through. her and her bullshit religion she chose to be in because all her other whore friends were doing it. she never did anything for herself
Haha, you all need to chill out. This song may be referring to a group of people, it may be referring to one person in particular.
It may also be referring to being real and upfront about yourself rather than being fake and having a God complex(which is what in my opinion, this song is truly about).
When I listen to this music, I don't think "Goddamn emo/bohemian poser/scenester kids! Yeah! Fuck them!"
I think "Shit, this is funny."
Agree to disagree, eh?

everyont is freaking out over this song. yes it is amazing.
and yet you all call each other names becuase you think you know more about it. everyone has their own opinions. like i think its just about not choosing to be yourself.
but if you realy are a person who calls other people names that's cool.
just putting my opinion out there. maybe stop some of the name calling over the song.
we call that music snobbery.
to the person calling the others dumbasses | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/20/07
I think it's clear that max is making fun of goth, emo, and punk people, but the lyrics are intentionally vague enough that the overall message of the song is open to interpretation. You are supposed to take from the song whatever message that is most applicable to you. To the person who is presenting their interpretation of the lyrics as being fact and calling other people dumbasses for expressing their opinions, You are exactly the type of person max is making fun of in the verse about pontificating to each other competing for that one moment of self-aggrandizing glory. You think you're smarter than you actually are, and because of that, you think you can take whatever message you believe is being conveyed in the song and tell others that it is the only correct assertion of the lyrics, even though you have no idea what the band was thinking when the song was written. Then you get pleasure out of making fun of anyone who believes otherwise. You are a douchebag.

Both of yas are right..... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/20/07
This song is about being fake. It is also about being yourself. So actualy you are both right. This song is saying (in my opinion) that you shouldn't try and fit in and instead just be yourself. Be an individual instead of following everyone else. Instead of dressing how "your group" dresses get a life and dress yourself with what you like.

I think this song is amazing.
Pretty much everything they say is completely true!
It's about being fake.
Plain and simple!
Yeah, just to throw my opinion in, this song is simply about being fake. It's not about any particular group of people, (goth, punk, emo, etc.) It's about living a lie, doing things to fit in, and yadda yadda yadda.
both r wrong | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/11/07
actually, neither of u r correct. this song is completely about being yourself, admit that u r not who u pretend to be, and just be urself. admit that what u r doing is not u, u do it only to fit in with society. instead of doing so, just be u and be proud of urself and live w/o regrets. (god! dumbasses)
