Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
I'm tired and I
I want to go to bed
Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
And then leave me alone
Don't try to wake me in the morning
'Cause I will be gone
Don't feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart
I will feel so glad to go
Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
I don't want to wake up
On my own anymore
Sing to me
Sing to me
I don't want to wake up
On my own anymore
Don't feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart
I really want to go
There is another world
There is a better world
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Well ...

to the person below me: i'm sorry but i don't see how knowing a song through a book is pathetic. It's touching that an author would love a song so much that they include it into their book so readers can relate better to the book. And yes, that is how i learned about the song...and i'm only halfway through the book.

It's quite pathetic that most of you only know the song through a childish book. And yes, I would rather these people didn't find the song at all. Also, you people who apparently put this song on repeat for a few hours before bed and sob, try seeing a psychologist.

People tend to read too far into Morrissey's lyrics sometimes. The song is clearly about a lonely person who want's to die ("I really want to go"). It really cannot be any clearer. Those who found this song through that book, go buy the album Louder Than Bombs. It is filled with great tracks like this one.
i must admit, i had never even heard of The Smiths until i read THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER. i listened to this particular song first, and fell in love with them. i listened to so many more of their songs and now they are on my playlist for a literature project. (on a less important note, my crush loves them ^.^)
Yeah I have to admit I listen to the Smiths because of my love for "Charlie", my fictional character soul mate. I play around with some friends in a kind of band, we usually just mess around covering Bob Dylan or the like, some original folk bluesy stuff and we have our own little private cover of this song. I have heard very few songs as perfect as this, and if you like the vibe of this song listen to the original Bob Dylan version of Knocking on Heaven's Door. (I promise, that's a Dylan song where you can understand him.) Much the same vibe. I love that so many other people love The Perks of Being a Wallflower by the way. Also good, Rule of the Bone by Russel Banks.
this song is so amazing. it maybe very short but yu have to really listen to the lyrics to understand it. the book the perks of being a wallflower is amazing it relates exactly with this song. if yu havent read tht book i really recommend it. its amazing it really makes yu think about life and everything but yu really have to focus on it to really understand. im reading it for the second time now. it will always be one of my favorite books and i will never get tired of reading it. READ IT ITS AMAZING!!!!!

How can you NOT think this song is about suicide? What a classic Smiths song....I listen to these old tunes and almost laugh at how pathetic the music industry has become now. Nobody can touch this stuff in terms of pure song writing, emotion, melody, etc.
The Smiths probably don't care what you say about their song... although they may be entertained by how many people know it now through a medium that isn't their own. i think it's funny that a book has touched so many people and caused them to go and find a song.
I love that, I think it's incredible.
I adore the smiths, and i've never read the perks of being a wallflower, but i might now...
I think this song IS about suicide... but that's just how i see it, how i relate to it.
If you like this song because you found it in the book, you should listen to more of their songs. They're brilliant <3
I grew up with these guys playing the background of my life(when nirvana and the cure werent). they're really sweet.

Song Meaning and Perks of Being a Wallflower | Reviewer: Emma | 7/17/09
This some is about someone who is extremely lonely and is talking about suicide (that would be the falling asleep part).
Don't try to wake me in the morning
'Cause I will be gone
-(meaning he'll be dead)
I just wanted to say this because tons of people are putting theories out and, of course I can't be certain because I'm not the writer of the song, but I am almost positive of the meaning because I feel the exact same way.
Also, about the Perks of Being a Wallflower, I thought that the other of that book was extremely creative in putting that song into the book because I think they relate so well and it's interesting to find something outside of the book that seems like it's just another chapter or something... great book if you haven't read it, I recommend it.
Right after I finished ' The Perks of Being a Wallflower ' , I straight away went back to the song listing for the mixtape.
And to be honest this song, is just so good. It related so much to the novel, same with the other songs. I'm so glad I have read it.
I'm now going to have to re-read the novel soon, since i'm entering High School just like he did.
This song, just makes me think of a better world.
It's nice and peaceful.
