All Down The Line Lyrics - The Rolling Stones

Review The Song (1)

(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

Yeah, heard the diesel drumming all down the line.
Oh, heard the wires a humming all down the line.
Yeah, hear the women sighing all down the line.
Oh, hear the children crying all down the line.

(All down the line.) We'll be watching out for trouble, yeah.
(All down the line.) And we'd better keep the motor running, yeah.
(All down the line.) Well, you can't say yes and you can't say no,
Just be right there when the whistle blows.
I need a sanctified girl with a sanctified mind to help me now.

Yeah, all the people singing all down the line.
Mmmm, watch the men all working, working, yeah. (All down the line.)

(All down the line.) We're gonna open up the throttle yeah.
(All down the line.) We're gonna bust another bottle, yeah.
(All down the line.)

I need a shot of salvation, baby, once in a while.
Hear the whistle blowing, hear it for a thousand miles.

(All down the line.) We're gonna open up the throttle, yeah.
All down the line, We're gonna bust another bottle, yeah.
Well you can't say yes, and you can't say no,
Just be right there when the whistle blows.
I need a sanctified mind to help me out right now.

Be my little baby for a while.
Won't you be my little baby for a while?

All Down The Line Stones put out their best on "Exile" | Reviewer: Christopher Schreiner | 6/24/12

Exile On Main Street is a treasure chest of gems making it my favorite Stones album. Icouldn't believe the bad reviews it got when it first was released. Withina year I saw the critics changing their story as the album snowballed in popularity. "All Down The Line" is a powerful driving rocker in an album so diversified from Blues to Country to Gospel to Rock n Roll. The words contain hints of the Conflicting critic reviews that were to come-in both directions (months apart) at times by the very same critics-when Mic sings "Well,You can't say yes and you can't say no...! This song as well as the album features musicians from my favorite Rolling Stones Best Line-up--- Mick Jagger, Keith Richard, Mick Taylor, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Bobby Keys, Jim Price, Nicky Hopkins, and Ian Stuart. The majority of the tracks were contrived and recorded at Nellcote, Keith Richards home in Marseilles Ville Franche Sur Mer in the South of France.
