One of the finest examples of a pure rock song, Highway to Hell is a pristine example of Hard Rock at it's finest. Also let me add, Highway to Hell is not about Satanism, incase that would ever cross your mind. Bon Scott, lead singer for ACDC at the time, had written this song apparently about going down to the local pub with his buddies, and in order to get there, he had to descend a trecherous hill which ended in a crossing that saw some of the worst accidents of the region. Therefore, it became a Highway to Hell, and if you read the lyrics, it becomes apparent that it is indeed just a lil' trip to the bar. The music is written with great fervor, enthusiasm, excitement and good vibes. The rhythm guitars are right on the money, but the lead guitar leaves you aching for more because they set it up with a nice lead-in. You end up putting the song on "repeat." The words definintely need work (clearly Neil Peart is not writing them). This is a guy-song that you listen to either alone or with your friends. I'm sure the gulf buddies fighting in Iraq could use a song like this. Instead, midway through the song, it gets a little flat and repetitious. Even a bass solo consistent with the rest of the song would have been welcomed. Maybe this will happen during a live performance. This song definitely worth adding to the CD just for the beat and bass alone. BOOM!!!! | Reviewer: silvertonguedevil2008 ------ About artist/band AC/DC After seeing AC DC for the first time in Portland's Rose Garden Arena on the ballbreaker tour I was blown away at how good they sounded. I did not expect such a hard rocking band to sound so clean and crisp. I had seen many others before them, Scorpions, Motley Crue, Dio, Ozzy, Aerosmith, Iron Maiden.. and the list goes on and on. AC DC set the bar for others to match. I doubt very much that anyone out there, past or present could surpass their performance here. All of the fans here in the Rose city were treated to a double dosage of Angus and the crew when they returned to Portland in the later stage of the same Ball Breaker tour. I bought a T shirt for my girl friend at the first show, which was in the early stage of the tour, and I noticed that it did not have a second Portland show listed on it. The shirt I got for myself at the second show had their return date on it which leads me to believe that the band recognized their performance in one of the worlds best sounding venues was a special moment, and that Portland fans themselves knew this too and deserved a second Jolt of AC DC voltage. Again thinking that the band might not sound so good, this time because they were winding down to the end of a long world tour, and it would be understandable if the vocals and energy level were down just a bit, I was blown away when they were even more energetic and sounded just as good, if not better, than their first show here.
