On the day the wall came down
They threw the locks onto the ground
And with glasses high we raised a cry for freedom had arrived
On the day the wall came down
The Ship of Fools had finally run aground
Promises lit up the night like paper doves in flight
I dreamed you had left my side
No warmth, not even pride remained
And even though you needed me
It was clear that I could not do a thing for you
Now life devalues day by day
As friends and neighbours turn away
And there's a change that, even with regret, cannot be undone
Now frontiers shift like desert sands
While nations wash their bloodied hands
Of loyalty, of history, in shades of gray
I woke to the sound of drums
The music played, the morning sun streamed in
I turned and I looked at you
And all but the bitter residue slipped away...slipped away

It's indeed a great song. I love the calmly of the chorus. Once thing I've noticed in almost all Gilmour's compositions, it's the melancholy of a better time when we were younger (subject present in this song and in High Hopes), how there was a better time and how all life's expetations are converted to disillusionment as we grow. But still we have the nusic. I am from Chile by the way, and this is an amazing band, I can't believe there are, nowadays, people who have never heard of them, how do they live? xD

It makes me want to fix the world, but it makes you realize how the world is at the same time. I just wish there was somthing i could do!! but thank you pink floyd, your songs have been an inspiration of mine for years, and i am always finding new music by them that i love. Truely legendary band! I love you

how come that nobody commented on this song?!, its amazing, in tune with all pink floyd songs, about the human condition, our miseries and flaws, the sense of being free, and yet we're corrupted by this world, hatred, wars and leaders who'd better see their soldiers, instead of putting an end to this miserable war.
i love the band, the lyrics, the sound, everything, im from argentina and yet all the meanings touch me deeply
thank you pink floyd, for all these great masrterpieces
