A Wolf At The Door Lyrics - Radiohead

Review The Song (53)

Drag him out your window
Dragging out your dead
Singing I miss you
Snakes and ladders
Flip the lid
Out pops the cracker
Smacks you in the head
Knifes you in the neck
Kicks you in the teeth
Steel toe caps
Takes all your credit cards
Get up get the gunge
Get the eggs
Get the flan in the face
The flan in the face
The flan in the face
Dance you fucker dance you fucker
Don't you dare
Don't you dare
Don't you flan in the face
Take it with the love is given
Take it with a pinch of salt
Take it to the taxman
Let me back let me back
I promise to be good
Don't look in the mirror
At the face you don't recognize
Help me call the doctor
Put me inside
Put me inside
Put me inside
Put me inside
Put me inside
I keep the wolf from the door
But he calls me up
Calls me on the phone
Tells me all the ways that he's gonna mess me up
Steal all my children
If I don't pay the ransom
But I'll never see them again
If I squeal to the cops
No no no no no no no:
Walking like giant cranes ah
With my x ray eyes i strip you naked
In a tight little world and why are you on the list?
Stepford wives who are we to complain?
Investments and dealers investments and dealers
Cold wives and mistresses
Cold wives and sunday papers.
City boys in first class
Don't know we're born little
Someone else is gonna come and clean it up
Born and raised for the job
Someone else always does
I wish you'd get up get over get up get over
Turn the tape off.
I keep the wolf from the door
But he calls me up
Calls me on the phone
Tells me all the ways that he's gonna mess me up
Steal all my children
If I don't pay the ransom
But I'll never see them again
If I squeal to the cops
So I'm just gonna'

Younger generation ! | Reviewer: Claudio Denmark | 7/27/13

I find it funny how many youngsters who have been posting in this thread. I dont consider myself old at all, I am 23 at the moment. I have been listening to Radiohead since I was 15 years old. All I can say, that I hope you stick to Radiohead. I can say sincerely that Radiohead has changed my life, and especially everything that surrounds music to the better. I even got Radiohead tattoo song quotes inked to my skin.

I do not consider myself a Radiohead fanatic at all, Im just very greatful for them. I hope you youngsters are still rocking radiohead way past your 20's :) I now I will way past my 30's ;)

I love the commenters :D | Reviewer: UinJai | 6/27/13

I just love it when the commenters really write loooong reviews about the song. I can just learn so much more about Radiohead. I'm 12 and I just started liking them not long ago. When I just hear their songs on the surface I will think they are really good and creative with words. But after reading the comments I realised there was much more to their songs rather than just creativity and skills. The band really communicated well with their fans through their awesome songs. That's probably why they've got good and loyal fans like you guys. I really enjoy reading the comments about the song. Thanks you guys! :D

Radiohead is quite depressing, actually | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/3/13

You have The Bends -- basically the entire album is about a fear of being alone
You have OK Computer -- the entire album is basically about a fear of dying

People who are predisposed to such thoughts tend to be depressed.

Furthermore, most of Radiohead's music sets a somber, sad or mournful mood with slow and soft beats, and minor chords. Even some of the few songs which have upbeat melodies (Black Star, for instance) have incredibly depressing messages.

A flash of insight just hit me regarding this song | Reviewer: Lukertin | 4/3/13

and it almost brought me to tears.

Basically, the wolf at the door is doing all this evil, the singer is the only person who can fend him off because everyone else is too scared or complacent to do anything, yet they will never accept him because of what he does. Examples are like Anonymous and its hacktivism group, or Batman from the recent Batman movies (not the hero you want but the hero you need).

Ultimately though, the wolf at the door is the one in control of everything, including the singer, which makes the singer recognize the futility of his actions to change anything.

Submersion | Reviewer: Ethan Brown (Ethanisafish) | 10/5/11

What I love and I think you all love about Radiohead is the way there music submerges you into the song, you get senses of feeling both mental and physical. Everyday on my walk to college I use their songs to calm me, songs like Kid A even warp my sense of reality until that final moment when I get to college and that bursts my bubble.

Yeah sure whatever | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/16/11

You can listen to any kind of fucking music and think it's depressing if you are depressed yourself. I have been there. I used to think that Radiohead, among other artists, had a lot of depressing songs, but that's not the case now that I've gotten over that crap that bothered me. It's all in your silly head.
Sure a few of their songs are sad, but if you're going through teenage angst (even if you think you're not, and you're the age 13-20, you probably are), just wait a couple of years, you'll appreciate the songs in a whole new way.

emo? | Reviewer: ButDoYouKnow | 8/17/11

Hail to the Thief is probably one of their best albums yet. Radiohead's music is NOT depressing music, people. It's the kind of music that you can submerge in, the one you can feel, enjoy, and listen to deeper than the other types of music. If you want depressing lyrics, go look for another music artist.

how could | Reviewer: geenuh | 7/24/11

So I'm reading all of these comments about how 17 yr olds just think tht Radiohead is depressing music. FALSE.! those are the ppl tht haven't gotten in depth with their music & I know this cause I was one of em. I nvr liked Radiohead in fact I hated them but my life changed the second I listen to Idioteque. Ever since then I've been OBSESSED with Radiohead since about 07. I'm 19 now & they just keep amazing me with all their music & have even gotten people into them too.

Maaaan... I LOOVE Radiohead | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/27/11

This lyrics are SO AWESOME! And it's true, people around my age (17) think that Radiohead is like EMO music or suicidal stuff.... and it bothers me that they have only heard No Surprises, Creep, Karma Police and High and Dry, I'm not saying that those are bad songs, in fact, they are SOOOOO GOOD! But Radiohead has A LOT of amazing songs like Nude, I Will, knives Out, Videotape, Down is the New Up.... and so I could name them for a REALLY long time... Awesome.

Love Radiohead | Reviewer: JJ | 1/19/11

to the guy that said earlier about wanting more people under 20 to like radiohead. Im 17 and have liked radiohead for about a year now. i love there music and i listen to them all the time. Also my younger brother kinda likes them too.

Great song! | Reviewer: Daniel | 10/27/10

Thom Yorke once said that his songs are like his children, and that he sends them out to war, which made a lot more sense when i heard this album. the lyric "Steal all my children if I don't pay the ransom" makes me think of his songs and how maybe the music industry is trying to distort their music or something along those lines. Just another interpretation

KDSJSasfasdf | Reviewer: Holly | 10/26/10

Who cares what it means. It's just good music. And Thom has said before that his lyrics aren't usually meant to mean anything deep they're just lyrics. This is probably one of my favourite songs by Radiohead. Hail to the Thief is my favourite album. I wish more people under 20 would listen to them. I'm 13 and they're my favourite.

about the lyrics | Reviewer: thom yorke | 9/13/10

a defenestrated him iniciates the consciousness flow of the song. and suddenly the pictorial plan, full of supposedly rando images and situations which do not make any sense by themselves - and then all of this stuff interacts with the background knowledge and previous experiences of the listeners and transport them into this crazy dimension, where everything is possible as long as you keep the wolf from the door, because he is right there, ready to fuck up!

WOW! | Reviewer: Ciatlinnn | 8/5/10

I adore this song, and the video, too. It can be interpreted so many ways, and the lyrics just leave me stunned into silence. Amazing. I love this song, even more than 2+2=5, I think.
I love the lyrics 'Walking like giant cranes,
And with my X-ray eyes I strip you naked' - gives me chills :]
