A Dustland Fairytale beginning
With just another white trash county kiss
In '61
Long brown hair and foolish eyes
He'd look just like you'd want him to
Some kind of slick chrome American prince
Blue jean serenade
Moon River what'd you do to me
I don't believe you
Saw Cinderella in a party dress
But she was looking for a nightgown
I saw the devil wrapping up his hands
He's getting ready for the showdown
I saw the minute that I turned away
I got my money on a pawn tonight
A change came in disguise of revelation
Set his soul on fire
She said she always knew he'd come around
And the decades disappear
Like sinking ships but we persevere
God gives us hope
But we still fear what we don't know
Your mind is poison
Castles in the sky sit stranded, vandalized
The drawbridge is closing
Saw Cinderella in a party dress
But she was looking for a nightgown
I saw the devil wrapping up his hands
He's getting ready for the showdown
I saw the ending when they turned the page
I threw my money and I ran away
Straight to the valley of the great divide
Out where the dreams all hide
Out where the wind don't blow
Out here the good girls die
And the sky won't snow
Out here the bird don't sing
Out here the field don't grow
Out here the bell don't ring
Out here the bell don't ring
Out here the good girls die
Now Cinderella don't you go to sleep
It's such a bitter form of refuge
Well don't you know the kingdom's under siege
And everybody needs you
Is there still magic in the midnight sun
Or did you leave it back in '61?
In the cadence of a young man's eyes
Out where the dreams all hide

Review about A Dustland Fairytale nice ring, nice sing, bling bling! | Reviewer: landon | 9/3/09
I like this song because of the fairytale like lyrics and how it's song and the orchestration. it's powerful and shows emotion to it. it has a lot to do with hope and what people fear for and what they take for granted until they don't have it. it's so good!
Especially the part when god gives them hope but they don't know because they fear it and when the town needs some help. cool...
like i said... ring, sing, and bling bling!

This is about Brandon's mom, her life, death and how she touched peoples lives. She is a princess (a Cinderella) and the Devil (cancer) takes what's good on earth. Nothing is right. . . the wind don't blow; the bell don't ring; the sky don't snow. The good girls die. . . alludes to the fact that nothing is right or explainable on this earth. This IS the most magical and powerful song I've ever heard. I have tattooed a part of the lyric on my body. . . the most amazing part of the song. . . "Change came in disguise of revelation, sets the soul on fire." I can't thank you enough Brandon for music like this.

I think this is a tribute to Dave's mom who passed away not too long ago. Not sure but some of the lyrics fit. I'm guessing his dad is the "slick chrome American prince" and his mom Cinderella. His guitar solo on Letterman was awesome.
Good song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/16/09
Good song but what I don't get is why English songs have always different lyrics... I mean.. different versions here and there on a different sites...which one is correct? I'm not the native English speaker so quite confused...

The song is about Flowers's parents falling in love at a young age and their lives together, and less directly about how his mum is/was dying (if she hadn't already) of cancer.
It's a beautiful song. I didn't know what to make of it at first, but after I really caught the lyrics (which are a bit off here, by the way), it really struck a chord with me.
God gives us hope
But we still fear what we don't know
I think it's that we don't really know for sure what lies after death, which is why most people fear it... and/or that it's natural for people to be afraid of what we don't understand.
Now Cinderella, don't you go to sleep
It's such a bitter form of refuge
Oh, don't you know that the kingdom's under siege
And everybody needs you?
I always cry at that part...
Dead Marriage | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/7/08
A great song!
I think its about being stuck in a bad marriage / relationship. The courting, the passion, the innocent hope of a lasting fairytale story. The story is broken by that devil (whatever that is)and then Cinderella choosing sleep as a refuge to escape her life. I think the end of the song tells us to return to the magic we felt/ sensed when we were younger and innocent, sort of like that first magical kiss...that's my two cents

this is the best song.
question to anyone who wants to reply to this..
is this song about good and evil and like... how people are beginning to fear that god doesnt exist?
She said she always knew he'd come around
And the decades disappear
Like sinking ships but we persevere
God gives us hope
But we still fear what we don't know
Your mind is poison
saying like... we think god may not exist... so our mind is killing poisioning our beliefs and stuff?
even though we go to god for help.... we still fear he isnt there?
Friggin Awesome!!! | Reviewer: Aisha | 11/27/08
This is one of the most magical songs I've ever heard in my life. I just want to go dance in the street singing my lungs out to this sung. It strengthens my belief that magic can happen everyday for anyone!!!!
