A Boy Brushed Red Living in Black and White Lyrics
Artist(Band):Underoath
Can you feel your heartbeat racing?
Can you taste the fear in her sweat?
We've done this wrong we're too far gone
These sheets tell of regret
I admit that I'm just a fool for you
I'm just a fool for you
Here is where we both go wrong
Tonight's your last chance to do exactly
what you want to
And this could be my night
This is what makes me feel alive
Makes you feel alive
Here is where we both go wrong
So tie me up and toss this key
'Cause for now we're living
In this moment that we both ignore the truth
It's all over!
It's all over!
I feel your heart against mine
So take a breath and close your eyes, eyes
(CHORUS)
Your lungs have failed
and they've both stopped breathing
My heart is dead and it's way past beating
Something has gone terribly wrong
I'm scared, you're scared, we're scared of this
I never thought we'd make it out alive
I never told you but it's all in your goodbyes
It's all in your goodbyes
Well, look who's dying now slit wrists for sleeping
with the girl next door
I always knew you were such a sucker for that
It doesn't matter what you say
You never mattered anyway
I never mattered anyway
In this moment that we both ignore the truth
It's all over
It's all over
I feel your heart rubbing against mine
So take a breath and close your eyes, eyes
(CHORUS)
Don't shake, I hate to see you tremble
tremble like you've lost your touch haven't you?
I'm so addicted
So addicted
(CHORUS)
(CHORUS)

Great Song! | Reviewer: Matthew!!! | 11/20/2008
This is a great song but you guys need to chill about the whole hurtful meanings in the song. It's just a song it was probably written for entertainment and not meant to have a deep meaning. So everyone just kinda chill and I'm not saying any of you are wrong in your interpetations but really seriously chill out it's just a song. It's not like the 33rd law or anything.
open for interpretation | Reviewer: mike d | 11/12/2008
i dont think there is a definite meaning to the song. when it was wrote im sure they did have their own meaning that they were writing about, but also left it open for interpretation. for example: how do we know that "the girl next door" is the girlfriend? perhaps she is a third party that the main man feels guilty about sleeping with because his girl wouldnt put out before marriage. i dont agree with everyone on here going "i am right and this is what it means." unless aaron or spencer get on here and say "it means this" than people can interpret the song any way they want
To end the confusion and debate..... | Reviewer: Ryan Taylor | 10/22/2008
this song has so many meaning and christian and religious beliefs an views tied in. First of all it is about a young un-wed couple that is regretting having sex. They both believed in abstinience until marriage and thy did not stick with that belief, also it tells about the young man being so in love am caught up in the sexual aspect of their relationship he feels addicted. The young woman is having racing thoughts about what she has done and the consequences she is facing. The line "slit wrists for sleeping with the girl next door" symbolizes the route the young man took when he did not want to face the consequence of pre-marital sex, it isn't literal, just a symbol that show be went to extremes when facing the consequence of his action. I believe that Aaron and Spencer tell a beautiful and powerful story with this song. I am Christian and I have many strong beliefs and I think that people should stop looking at the fact that this song is by a Christian band and saying wait a minute they are singing about sex, no they are telling about a young couples prediciment resulting from pre-marital sex. Overall it's an amazing song and am amazing band. So put aside differences and enjoy the music. I hope this explanation helped. -Ryan Taylor. Galatians 2:20

josh.....interesting interpretation. "this song is obviously about two guys that like eachother and they start to get into a sexual r/ship." ......what???, when i read that i got sooo confused. ppl think about this song in diff ways, but thats the furthest off from my interpretation i've ever seen.
there are TWO (2) guys singing the song because this band has TWO (2) vocalists (huge emphasis on 2). (your reason is wierd to me, and would prolly make spencer and aaron feel a little awkward singing this together)
in the song, aaron says, "you" a lot like "makes you feel alive" or "you've done this wrong" because it's a narration. i kind of doubt that it is a gay guy talkin to his bi friend.
"in this moment that we both ignore the truth" ignoring the truth is the fact that they (boy and girl) didn't want to get physical and it did or that they don't want to ignore the truth that they still love eachother, even after the complication that sex brought.
"tonight's your last chance to do exactly what you want to" narrator says that the guy wants to get involved sexually. and he is addicted to the physical relationship with the girl.
"Don't shake i hate to see you tremble. Loving you I am so addicted" she is trembling in her fear of consequences of the relationship. he is addicted to his love of her, pretty obvious
there's more i could try to give my opinion on, i guess, but ya, thats about it.~~
Fantastic song | Reviewer: Josh | 10/2/2008
Yea yea they are a christian hardcore band but what eves. This song is obviously about two guys that like each other and they start to get into a sexual r/ship( ones gay and ones bi) but then on of them starts to have a thing for the girl next door. As you can hear in the song two of the boys are singing the song. so the first one is say Tonight's your last chance to do exactly what you want to, and the second guy is saying, And this could be my night This is what makes me feel alive Makes you feel alive. this is there parting affair coz guy A is about to go after the chick, the start of the song is like the end of the event. thinking his inlove the chick he tries to go after but it doesnt work out hence the sheets tell of regret. the whole ignoring the truth is A) ignoring the chirstian anti-gay thing and B) coz they are having pre-marital sex which is also against the church. Chorus a is about the boys parting. The verse after the first chorus is about guy B) saying how he never matter and how he knew boy A) would go for the stupid chick next door. then he's telling him not to shake and that he was still always addicited to him. thats my analysis and it could be totally wrong but i like to think if of it like that
Christian? | Reviewer: Emily | 9/21/2008
Why does it matter if they're christian? It doesn't mean every one of their songs has to taken as if it has a reference to god. I'm christian but every thing coming out of my mouth doesn't have to do with god.
This song has more to do with regretas of going into things to quickly,
and getting over it and working through it
not with god forgiving it.

For those of you obsessed with a religious aspect to the song drop it then think about it. For those of you without the religious thoughts on it think about them. You will more than likely notice the song different. Now I think the song is about the comings of the future for maybe a couple who regretted the past. I never thought wed make it out alive may imply the couple did last, but with a lot of things going wrong. Also it could also be interpreted that they did not have any conclusion to their relationship. I also think that the song takes place during sex. It is a love song, but the kind of love is fr you to decide. I also can see religious aspects to the song, and were your thoughts come from, but you would see it so much different if you didn't think of religion when you heard it. I believe the songs energy is great, and I personally love it. One of my favorite songs. Also remember music is for you to interpret, but keep the original thoughts the singer may have had in mind.

I peresonally love this song because it reminds me of my past. this song means so much to me and i dont really knowwhy but it dose. Underoath is not an emo band, they just try to explain how life can be pretty messed up,they maybe christian and sing some songs applying to jesus or god but it done not make them a bad band .i think this song is about love and sex. the song is expling how you may think that you found love when you really never and you mess up by having sex when your not in love.
i think you guys are doing a great job and plz dont stop! <3
i love this song and i love this band!

Just stop the religious things...
Religion ruined much more lives in its history than drugs or drinking.
You just have been taught the things you stated. You just have been guided to believe things without even questioning.
The orthodox church says: "Have faith and don't question"....
Peace out
Like fornication and then regret, but never finding the exit... | Reviewer: Arkhaz | 7/6/2008
Of course is about sex, about messing it up and not knowing the truth:
-In this moment that we both ignore the truth
It's all over!-
Just like young people (later becoming adults), ignoring the truth they do as they want to please their desires (never pleasing them for good, just for a moment). Ignoring the fact they will die by living like that and never thinking about both the consequences of their bad choices and the consequence of living a life without even stopping to think about God for a second.
Just living for their own desires, never asking if there's more than that...
Also, brushed in red...living in black & white may apply to someone who is christian but is not living as such. Living like the rest of the world (according to the title), however they both ignore the truth so it's about the previously mentioned things!
It's sad the fact humanity is behaving worse and worse, young people are doing even more stupid things than before and ruining their lives with drugs, etc. Maybe it's not their fault, maybe they don't know what path to follow because they ignore there's that one we already know: Jesus.
This world is about to end, few years left for it and humanity is doing a bigger effort for it to happen sooner. Instead of turning to God, accepting we've been doing it all wrong and asking for His Salvation (which He already gave to us through Jesus) we do the opposite...
I like the fact Underoath is not singing as if everything was right, but the truth: This world is disgusting because we've turned it into what it is by now. They don't avoid talking about things like raping, drugs, theft, abortion, etc. Those are real problems humanity is facing today and the only exit is through the narrow gate: Jesus.
