Underoath A Boy Brushed Red Living in Black and White Lyrics

Last updated: 12/14/2011 10:00:00 AM

Can you feel your heartbeat racing?
Can you taste the fear in her sweat?
You've done this wrong it's too far gone
These sheets tell of regret
I admit that I'm just a fool for you
I'm just a fool for you

Here is where we both go wrong

Tonight's your last chance to do exactly
what you want to
And this could be my night
This is what makes me feel alive
Makes you feel alive

Here is where we both go wrong
So tie me up and toss this key
'Cause for now we're living

In this moment that we both ignore the truth
It's all over!
It's all over!

I feel your heart against mine
So take a breath and close your eyes, eyes

Your lungs have failed
and they've both stopped breathing
My heart is dead and it's way past beating
Something has gone terribly wrong
I'm scared, you're scared, we're scared of this
I never thought we'd make it out alive
I never told you but it's all in your goodbyes
It's all in your goodbyes

Well, look who's dying now slit wrists from sleeping
with the girl next door
I always knew you were such a sucker for fate
It doesn't matter what you say
You never mattered anyway
never mattered anyway

In this moment that we both ignore the truth
It's all over
It's all over

I feel your heart rubbing against mine
So take a breath and close your eyes, eyes

Don't shake, I hate to see you tremble
tremble like you've lost your touch haven't you?
I'm so addicted
So addicted

you view on this song is completely correct.. excellent lyrics talk about premarital sex and suicide based off of the guilt of it..

but i like how you mention the singers acting like they're talking to each other. as in clean singer 1, clean singer 2, and screaming singer. listen to the song and imagine that ONLY THE CHORUS is talking to each other, starting at "my lungs have failed and they've both stopped breathing... both clean singers act like 2 parts of a consciousness, or simply 2 different consciousness's within a single person, while the 3rd screaming voice acts as a subconscious.

anywho, the song goes on to say "i never thought we'd make it out alive" seem's to say that the person made it out of the situation... and is apparently writing a song about it..

Song name meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/24/11

"A Boy Brushed Red Living in Black and White" means a boy "covered" or "Brushed" (which means forgiven) means that he is brushed red in the blood of Jesus Christ...only Christians and people who actually know about Christianity (not justin XD) know about this,I've know for a long time now,but it's very hard for non-Christians to understand. "Living in Black and White" is easy it he means he lives in a world of wrong(black) and right(white) which is the way Christian morals are I think you can agree that we(most of us real Christians) stick to them hard we have a very "black and white" view of the world.

This is about a Christian kid who KNEW it was wrong to have sex before marriage and STILL DID IT anyway and he slit his wrists out of guilt, everyone knows that when you believe in something strongly and betray those beliefs you feel like the worst person in the world.

This kid felt so guilt it changed his life.

The other parts of the song is a friend berating him for what he has done and is filled with spite.

The song is a sad song... have you guys noticed that the two singers sound like they're talking to each other?? Replay the song and read the lyrics and listen to the distinction between the two and how they sing and what they say.

Great song!! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/24/11

This song is amazing it is about premarital sex,a friend is talking to his friend about it btw he says "slit your wrists" not "slit wrists" he just says it fast like "sli yer wrists" it's a normal thing for people to pronounce who are from Florida and the surrounding states they talk differently.

And Christianity you can't have premarital sex either.

Btw to shed some light on the lyrics the right ones are "Well, look who's dying now slit your wrists from sleeping
with the girl next door
I always knew you were such a sucker for that (whore)
It doesn't matter what you say
You never mattered anyway
never mattered anyway

Their record labe is a Christian record label and did not let the "whore" part in the song and that's why it's cut off at "that" not "fate" the people who manage this site haven't done anything about the wrong lyrics.

Christian | Reviewer: Dougdean | 6/16/11

Well first off I would like it say, they are definitely christian go listen to "Act of Depression" Cd and try to tell me they are not Christian in there lyrics...but anyways it dosn't really matter if they are christian or not just saying.

about the song | Reviewer: justin | 5/21/11

I'm not sure if I'm right but my theory on this song is its a couple where the girl is a virgin and is about to have sex with her boyfriend who's supposedly a virgin. He can't live with the shame of cheating on her hence "sleeping with the girl next door" which is why he slits his wrists cause he loves her but knows that he messed up. Then its all over and it never mattered anyway to the girl cause it was not what she thought it was but they are stll in love from the looks of the end of the song but yeah that's my theory, and to not have sec before marriage is catholic not christian just sayin

fail | Reviewer: Karol K | 4/7/11

i see a lot of these reviews with they're a christian band, aaron is blind and colorblind, cutting and bleeding and stuff. firstly, they never claimed to be a "christian" band, i've personally talked to them and in interviews they always said they're christians in a band, and their music cannot be considered christian as it isn't praising or worshipping , its just music. secondly wtf really? aaron has perfectly fine eyesight. the song can be interpreted in many ways but the main thing i understood from talking to them was premarital sex and the confusion behind it when people are not ready for it do the act.

hum... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/10/11

I think it's about sex.
Sex for the first time when you're not ready for it. During it, you don't know what to do of what it is, And after you feel dirty and stained.
I think it's what this song is about.
I don't see any religion in it.

Who cares | Reviewer: Afroski | 2/19/11

Personally I think that religion and music should be separate, Bananas and blueberries taste good but not together.
I'm not Christian so I have a different take to the artist. I think its still about sex, but instead the boy had under-aged sex and destroyed the meaning to his virginity. " a boy brushed Red" is about his reaction (self harm) "living in black and white" to do with his childish nature. He feels dirty and empty afterwards, and lacks the maturity to deal with it

Lmao | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/16/11

I love how the guy trying to make a point about religion making sense uses the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus as examples in his argument. You're right, we don't tell children to shove it about fictional characters, because they're children and they don't have the ability to use logic. Oops... now I'm comparing you to children.

Aaron isn't blind or colorblind, haha. I grew up in Tampa watching them play at the River Of Life church in front of 15 people doing praise and worship, hence why aaron is no longer the drummer(and bound to a contract with the almost. I lived with grant on Zambito and Bearss ave whn they shared a one bedroom at Palencia. They are way Christian just so everyones clear but not judgemental. That was the first time I had 151 I was like 17 or something, haha. They would walk around the apartment and say"you f-ing B, haha. they refused to curse. I also worked with chad huff at taco bell in land o lakes, (maylene's guitarist so dallas was always around. Its music, listen to it or don't but i hate reading forums where people say they know stuff for whatever reason. Ever heard of becoming anethesist? how bout love lies bleeding? exactly. How about when there nam was two words, Under Oath? Google doesn't tell you anything. If you do know what your talking about, shout at Grant and the Huffer for me. Peace!~

Religions do not 'suck'. That happens to be many nationalities and individuals beliefs, should we tell children to shove it because they believe in the Easter Bunny or Santa Clause?

Nobody's perfect. Personally, I think its exemplary that Underoath wrote a song like this. Christian's all make mistakes too, we all sin, no matter how prim, proper or pious some may seem. I don't exactly have a perfect track record, and I find it fantastic that a Christian band wrote a song about situations we come across in life so we can relate without being judged.

ehh. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/6/10

its actually about the drummer. who is blind in one eye and color blind in the other. and he meets a girl who he falls for, does sinfull things and after the relationship he finds out shes a slut.
the title is about feeling like bleeding.. or actually bleeding(cutting)because of the girl.
a boy brushed red(blood) living in black and white(because hes color blind)

Wow...Jesus!!!......that's right Bleach said it...and so do I... | Reviewer: Rube | 11/29/10

The style of music has nothing to do with whether or not they are a Christian band. God can use whatever and whoever He wants to, to be able to reach someone. UO tours with secular bands to be able to minister, not just to the fans, but also the other bands. This is what they are called, by God, to do...any comments?

Rube is right!! | Reviewer: Bleach | 11/29/10

Guys, if you do not believe uo isn't a Christian band, then that is ur opinion. But the facts are still there, uo stated in an interview that Christianity is the backbone of their music. So yea if you love Jesus ur obviously gonna see the amazing message God has allowed uo to put into their songs.

Underoath is a Christian band | Reviewer: Bleach | 11/26/10

The band Underoath is a Christian band. They talk about Jesus during their concerts. I have studied underoath alot and I know for a fact they are a Christian band. Their music is in Lifeway, plus their all Christians. How can they not be a Christian band? Just becuz your not religious doesnt mean you have to just assume uo isnt a Christian band. They are a Christian heavy metal band, and that is a fact. Underoath has said many times they are a Christian band.
