Some people are too cocky with their answers. Derek Foley spoke shit and, to be honest, I'm laughing at/with all the people that think he's wrong.

maybe.... hes talking about "sharper" as in smarter and box meaning his brain. because he was talking about the best "idea" hes ever had. but couldnt tell you, not a music analyzer.... it might just be me but i dont think that it has any symbolism toward cutting... unless hes talking litterally finding a box of really pretty looking knives... because that could be a beautifull thing too! lol jk but seriously, i like the song, which is strange because i really dont like the used... lol

Anyone who saw/read the interview would agree with the song being a metaphorical relation to music. A sharp is also a musical term, it is an accidental that is a half-step higher than the note, and it makes the metaphor even more obvious. People who think it's about cutting should stop translating lyrics so literally. When he says "stronger and sharper" he's most likely talking about the strength he gets from writing music, and how he feels mentally after doing so. He was not literally speaking of a box that had sharp objects in it. And also, Bert doesn't need Jesus. He said in an interview that music for him was like his Jesus, another reason why he should write about his love for it.

Stop arguing over what the song 'really' means.
For Taylor(suki)'box full of sharp objects' is about loving someone so much it hurts. Shes right..thats what it means to her.
For Derek foley 'box full of sharp objects' is about cutting yourself, he/she isn't wrong thats what it means to him/her, But that doesn't mean that 'the used' is Glorifying cutting. 'box full of sharp objects' was intended to be about love of music, the box of sharp objects is the metaphor. Now just because thats what the song is wrote about doesn't mean that it cant means something else to someone else.

But no Derek Foley This song isn't glorifying cutting. That may be the only meaning you get out of it but this doesn't mean that bert or any member of the used is glorifying cutting. Its your own fault you cant understand the metaphor being used.

I love this song.
