905 Lyrics - The Who

Review The Song (3)

Mother was an incubator
Father was the contents
of a test tube in the ice box
In the factory of birth

My name is 905,
And I've just become alive
I'm the newest populator
Of the planet we call Earth

In suspended animation
My childhood passed me by
If I speak without emotion
Then you know the reason why

Knowledge of the universe
Was fed into my mind
As my adolescent body
Left its puberty behind

sponsored links
And everything I know is what I need to know
And everything I do's been done before
Every sentence in my head
Someone else has said
At each end of my life is an open door

Automatically defrosted
When manhood came on time
I became a man
I left the "ice school" behind

Now I'm to begin
The life that I'm assigned
A life that's been used before
A thousand times

I have a feeling deep inside
That somethin' is missing
It's a feeling in my soul
And I can't help wishing

That one day I'll discover
That we're living a lie
And I'll tell the whole world
The reason why

But, until then, all I know is what I need to know
And everything I do's been done before
Every idea in my head
Someone else has said
At each end of my life is an open door

This song was one of The Who tunes written and sung by John Entwistle. According to Wikipedia... The piece was written for a futuristic rock opera that Entwistle never completed.

Pete Townshend is a genius. Not many write with personal vulnerability that he does. The dude was writing and recording in the 60's & 70's things that are even more relevant than the day he wrote it. Lifehouse pretty much predicts the Internet. 20 years before it took off. He is a modern day Nose-stradamus. ( sorry Pete)
Throw out Shakespeare and start teaching this guy in schools and maybe the kids will stay interested and be able to think and act for themselves.

Great tune | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/21/08

Fitting for the late 70's. Synths, "fear of the mechanized future" theme. But a catchy melody and basic structure make a fun song to listen to. I still have that Red vinyl edition... somewhere around here.
