9 Crimes Lyrics
Artist(Band):Damien Rice
Review The Song (21)Print the Lyrics
Leave me out with the waste
This is not what I'd do
It's the wrong kind of place
To be thinking of you
It's the wrong time
For somebody new
It's a small crime
And I've got no excuse

Is that alright?
Give my gun away when it's loaded
Is that alright?
If you don't shoot it how am I supposed to hold it
Is that alright?
Give my gun away when it's loaded
Is that alright
With you?

Leave me out with the waste
This is not what I'd do
It's the wrong kind of place
To be cheating on you
It's the wrong time
She's pulling me through
It's a small crime
And I've got no excuse

Is that alright?
Give my gun away when it's loaded
Is that alright?
If you dont shoot it, how am I supposed to hold it
Is that alright?
If I give my gun away when it's loaded
Is that alright
Is that alright with you?

Is that alright?
If I give my gun away when it's loaded
Is that alright?
If you don't shoot it, how am I supposed to hold it
Is that alright?
If I give my gun away when it's loaded
Is that alright
Is that alright with you?

Is that alright?
Is that alright?
Is that alright?
Is that alright?
Is that alright?
Is that alright with you?

Review about 9 Crimes

incredible solitude | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/18/2008
I could be wrong but I don't think the lyrics are intended to be a communication. I think it is one person's thoughts. I think he lost his loved one and is trying to move on. He views it as cheating because he still has feelings. I think the chorus deals with feelings of suicide. He can't keep dealing with it. "Is that alright with you?" he's asking for permission to move on.

    Depressed. | Reviewer: anonymous | 5/5/2008

This song is so beautiful and there was a time when I was so caught up with it I became depressed. Even though something like that never happened to me. Anyway I love this song. Damien Rice's voice fits it perfectly so does the other girls'.

I actually think this song is not about cheating on someone or being betrayed...

I think its about getting into a new relationship, a rebound person in a sense, and still have feelings for the last person you where with.
Ithink thats whats meant with "give my gun away when it is loaded" its still loaded with the feelings of the last love...

also says things like; "It's the wrong time
For somebody new" "It's the wrong time
    She's pulling me through"

So in one sens he is "cheating" on her... by using the other person to pull trough an older relationship and still have feelings for that person

    Hmm | Reviewer: kat | 2/13/2008

There's in my mind a few levels of depth to this song. People are quick to jump to the conclusion of sexual misidentity and the pain of having relations with someone other than your boyfriend/girlfriend. I'd prefer to think it's more complex than that.

The words 'Is that alright?/Give my gun away when it's loaded/Is that alright?/If you don't shoot it how am I supposed to hold it' allude to something more, the true depths of a romantic relationship. Romantic love is, in essence, to give without expectations; to find happiness in that which you might bring to your partner. The two in the song are ready, so they believe, to deal with the selflessness required in a successful love story. However, they are finding that while all the parts are there (the gun, the bullet, the target) neither is willing to take the steps. Nobody is shooting. They feel left with the burden (holding the gun). . .and start seeing other people who might shoot it.

    Emotional betrayal.

Of course, with such vague words and such a sad tune there's so many other ways it can be interpreted, including the act of shooting being completing guilt. Both are waiting for the hammer to fall, and are finding it hard to wait for those expectations to come to pass (I don't want to 'hold the gun' when you're prepared to 'shoot it' through me; I don't want the responsibility of holding onto these horrid feelings (the gun) when you haven't shot it off (eventual betrayal). Interesting song, I'm sure it's not meant to be as deep as I'm trying to make it :P

Overall I think people put too much pressure on dating and the expectations to sleep around. This song is so full of feeling that I'd prefer to think it was about the difficulties of marriage and giving yourself up utterly to your partner--and finding that you don't know if s/he will be there to catch you when you fall.

    Beautiful | Reviewer: M | 1/15/2008

I love this song in so many ways. First of all the piano is perfect. The slow agonizing melody sets the mood for the totured soul. I love how its a duet as well.

I see this song rather differently than most people. I see it as two people deeply in love yet searching for something else, something to fill the void. Instead of searching for it in each other they both go looking for it in other people. While they are with other people they cant stop thinking about the other. And when they are together they know things are not alright but they pretend they are even though they are not.

    Amazing. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/3/2008

    Just tears..... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/31/2007

just the best fitting song to decribe that heart clenching pain, when the one I loved so much cheated and betrayed my trust....Though the relationship is over now, all I can do when I listen to this song is: just tears....And I DO know very well what having to let go means!! Nothing but the part of a real LOVE.....Happy New 2008 for all!!!!

    Arsehole | Reviewer: Scrawl | 12/31/2007

I see alot have commented about them being cheated on and that's why this song appeals to them, I'm going to do the opposit thing here...

Call me an arse, I know I am and I regret it every day, because I've been that guy. The guy that cheated on his girlfriend. I don't know why I did it, and I hate myself for doing it. That's why I love this song. Stupid, ain't it all?
