45 Lyrics
Artist(Band):Shinedown
Send away for a priceless gift
One not subtle, one not on the list
Send away for a perfect world
One not simply, so absurd
In these times of doing what you're told
Keep these feelings, no one knows
What ever happened to the young man's heart
Swallowed by pain, as he slowly fell apart
And I'm staring down the barrel of a 45,
Swimming through the ashes of another life
No real reason to accept the way things have changed
Staring down the barrel of a 45
Send a message to the unborn child
Keep your eyes open for a while
In a box high up on the shelf, left for you, no one else
There's a piece of a puzzle known as life
Wrapped in guilt, sealed up tight
What ever happened to the young man's heart
Swallowed by pain, as he slowly fell apart
And I'm staring down the barrel of a 45,
Swimming through the ashes of another life
No real reason to accept the way things have changed
Staring down the barrel of a 45
Everyone's pointing their fingers
Always condemning me
And nobody knows what I believe
I believe
And I'm staring down the barrel of a 45,
And I'm swimming through the ashes of another life
No real reason to accept the way things have changed
Staring down the barrel of a 45
And I'm staring down the barrel of a 45,
Swimming through the ashes of another life
There is no real reason to accept the way things have changed
Staring down the barrel of a 45

Review about 45
Great Song | Reviewer: Maiko | 10/1/2008
I think it talks about that moment of despair you feel when everything in your life suddenly starts looking grey, most probably because of something you did, and that you have 2 choices, either change it for the best (because you ALWAYS have that option), or just let go.

This song talks about the ups and downs in life. It doesnt necessarily have to be a depressing song. If you just stop a minute to listen to and annalyze the lyrics you will understand that its just as much about living as it is about dying. Its a constant reminder to me that you just have to take the good in life as well as the bad. Even if the bad out weighs the good it your lifes choices that ultimately decide your fate

when i listened to this song it really spoke to me. I had this friend that was this wasy, one moment in his life he was so happy he had everything. Then one day he made a mistake and was never again happy. He was so sad, me and some of my friends tried to help him through, but we could only do so much. So one day when i'm at home doing some homework i got a call, it was my friends mom she told me that her son (my friend) had commited suicide in his room and she found him that morning. It was shocking news to me i was devastated. I had know him since we were in 1ST grade. I just want to tell people who are reading this and you know someone who wants to commit suicide. Bring them back help them, i dont want someone to go through what i had to deal with its sad and devastating to anyone who is envolved. Thanks for taking the time to read what i have to say i appreciate it

I don't believe this song is about happiness, or wanting to believe in a perfect world without crappy things. I truly believe this singer knows that it's a fantasy that can never be possible. However, I do think this song is about himself; how he once was this person that felt unimaginable happiness, and how he lost it. I don't know how. I find myself in this song: I once lived this life of peace and well being, and I lost it. I felt the pain swallowed me. I wanted to even kill myself, but in the end I came to realize life is hard, and that is a reality that I have to embrace. I believe this singer believes that to. He knows it's hard when he sings "And I'm staring down the barrel of a 45 (45), Swimming through the ashes of another life (another life)No real reason to accept the way things have changed Staring down the barrel of a 45..." He swims through the ashes of the life he had, but at the same time he knows there's no reason to accept that everything should stay this way, there's got to be a way to find that inner peace again. However, he gets weak and looks at the end of a 45 (a gun), while all these feelings of battle and strengh sorround him. The bridge where he sings: "Everyone's pointing their fingers Always condemning me And nobody knows what I believe I believe..." means he has a new meaning for life that many people do not embrace. Maybe, those people used to be his friends or colleagues of some sort, and now they seem to criticize him. In the end it could all mean the path of his life. His experience. How he became who he is right now.
it's sounds like me some times this is a great song | Reviewer: zoey | 10/15/2007
I think this song is great. it sounds like me when i broke up with my boyfriend that i was with for 5 years. Now when this song comes on it brings me back to that day. Plus it sounds like my every day life almost. but to tell you the truth i love this song a hell of alot.

All I can say is that this song is amazing. You can hear the anger and pain in his voice. All he wants is for everyone to be happy and live life without all te negative crap, simple right? Not always.

ty for posting my post. if you listen to most of there songs you will see why he chose to cover simple man. he just wants to see all happy. he trying to help show all that to be happy is simple. like better version of me. maybe he selfish like i am. im selfish for wanting all to be happy. this band has hit me hard in a good way. life is simple. my fav saying is lets take something simple and complicate it. seems what all like to do. i dont. ken
my view | Reviewer: ken | 9/7/2007
you wont get this. whats my point? will see at end. priceless gift. one not on the list. a perfect world. (he a person that is simple. be happy he says)well thats simple right? not when others drag you down or songs words=In these times of doing what you're told
You keep these feelings, no one knows. (saying stop all the bull and be happy) song=And I'm staring down the barrel of a 45 (45),
Swimming through the ashes of another life (another life). (the other life is all the gossip and bad talk. forget it, be simple, happy.) Send a message to the unborn child? remeber this for a song to be said later. the 45 he is looking at is all the people around him so un-happy and he tring to help and cant and its killing him mentaly. the song i said at end simple man. momma told me when i was young. sit beside me my only son. listen closly. the song simple man is what he is saying. lol its that simple. my life saying for all but me is. ok lets take something simple and complicate it. be happy
