Tupac Shakur is in New York geboren. Hij is de zoon van twee voormalig Black Panther leden. 2Pac is de meest besproken rapper en een biografie van hem is nooit compleet. Hij is net zo'n legende als Bob Marley. Jong, oud, zwart of wit iedereen kent hem. Hij is gestorven als martelaar. Het getto-leven waar hij zo vaak over rapte heeft hem ook slachtoffer gemaakt. Hij begon ooit als rapper van Digital Underground. Maar voordat hij daar terecht kwam heeft hij ook op straat een hustle-lifestyle geleefd. Niemand had toen kunnen bedenken dat hij tot de grootste aller tijden zou uitgroeien.
In 1992 kwam zijn debuutalbum 2Pacalypse Now uit. In 1995 tekende hij bij Death Row Records. Daar werd Me Against The World uitgebracht. Een album dat zijn Outlaw mentaliteit kenmerkt, want Tupac was net zoveel in de gevangenis als dat hij vrij was. Daarna kwam de dubbelaar All Eyez on Me in 1996. De hitsingle California Love was een bevestiging van zijn status als superster.
Terwijl zijn succes groeide vocht hij in het openbaar zijn ruzie met zijn rivaal Notorious B.I.G. uit.
In september 1996 kwam 2Pac om bij een drive-by shooting. Op 13 september overleed hij, zes dagen na de aanslag.
Shakur was een bekende verschijning en werd daarom ook voor speelfilms gevraagd. Een van de bekendste films waar hij in speelde was John Singleton's Poetic Justice. Terwijl hij aan deze film meewerkte maakte hij een album af. Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. werd een platina album met hits als I Get Around en Keep Ya Head Up. Ook in de basketball film Above the Rim (uit 1993) speelde hij mee. Maar het succes weerhield hem er niet van telkens weer in aanraking te komen met Justitie. In 1992 was hij betrokken in gevecht, dat dodelijk afliep voor een zes jarige voorbijganger.
Toen 2Pac de film Menace II Society opnam in 1993, werd moviedirector Allen Hughes bedreigd. Daarvoor kreeg 2Pac 15 dagen gevangenisstraf. In oktober 1993 schoot hij in Atlanta op twee politiemannen. Ook werd hij voor sexueel misbruik van een vrouwelijke fan beschuldigd. Hij heeft voor dat strafbaar feit 4,5 jaar moeten zitten, maar omdat Suge Knight, de baas van Death Row Records een borgsom van $1.4 miljoen betaalde, werd 2Pac na 8 maanden voorwaardelijk vrijgelaten.
Terwijl hij de straf uitzat zag de buitenwereld dat Me Against the World binnenkwam op 1 in de charts. In de gevangenis deed hij uitspraken over wie er achter zijn aanslag zou zitten. Hij beschuldigde Notorious B.I.G., Puffy Combs, Andre Harrell en zijn eigen vriend Randy "Stretch" ervan deze actie in gang te hebben gezet.
2Pac speelde ook in de thriller Bullet en in de zwarte komedie Gridlock'd. Na de moord op 2Pac werd er hevig gespeculeerd. Er zouden aanwijzingen zijn dat Shakur eraan dacht Death Row te verlaten en misschien wel de hele rapindustrie achter zich te laten. Dit is tot nu toe onduidelijk en ook de ware toedracht van zijn moord is nog steeds niet opgehelderd.
Er doen verschillende theorien de ronde. Sommigen beweren zelfs dat hij nog leeft en ooit zal terugkeren. Zij zien in de rapteksten aanwijzingen hiervoor. In 2003 kwam Better Dayz uit, een cd met nog nooit uitgebrachte nummers. Dan lijkt het natuurlijk alsof die man nog leeft. In het nummer Thugz Mansion lijkt het echter alsof hij van boven naar de wereld kijkt.

Oh my rap king, 2pac Amaru Shakur. The rose that grew frm a concrete. I shared so many tears when i heard u're no more, but what more can say after remembering ur qoute "LIFE GOES ON" i believe hiphop is no more , so i dont bother listening to rap songs anymore, cus to me non can do it like u does. 2pac's lyrics aspire me to the point that i had to rap in every of my songs as an underground artist. He's poetic nature (2pac) made me a good lyricist n thats why u're my Thug Angel. I wish i could have a little of your thugs passion in this life of mine. 2pac made me proud to be a black.
