1985 Lyrics - Bowling for Soup

Review The Song (104)

Woo hoo hoo
Woo hoo hoo

Debbie just hit the wall, she never had it all
One Prozac a day, husband's a CPA
Her dreams went out the door when she turned 24
Only been with one man, what happened to her plan?

She was gonna be an actress, she was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass on the hood of Whitesnake's car
Her yellow SUV is now the enemy
Looks at her average life and nothing has been alright

Since Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie and music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school they tell her that she's uncool

Woo hoo hoo
(1985)
Woo hoo hoo

She's seen all the classics, she knows every line
Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, even St. Elmo's Fire
She rocked out to Wham!, not a big Limp Bizkit fan
Thought she'd get a hand on a member of Duran Duran

Where's the mini-skirt made of snake skin?
And who's the other guy that's singing in Van Halen?
When did reality become TV?
Whatever happened to sitcoms, game shows, on the radio was

Springsteen, Madonna, way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie and music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school they tell her that she's uncool
'Cause she's still preoccupied with 19-19-1985
(Woo hoo hoo)

She hates time, make it stop
When did Motley Crue become classic rock?
And when did Ozzy become an actor?
Please make this stop, stop, stop!

And bring back Springsteen, Madonna, way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie and music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school they tell her that she's uncool
'Cause she's still preoccupied with 1985

Springsteen, Madonna
(She hates time)
Way before Nirvana

There was U2 and Blondie

And music still on MTV

Her two kids in high school

I was born in 2000, but my favorite band is Pink Floyd or U2. I don't understand why people geberalise all kids born in the 21st century to have really bad music taste because that simply isn't the case. I like joy division, the cure, U2, Elton John, Blondie, and then bands today like Linkin Park, fall out boy, my chemical romance and you could not pay me to go see Miley Cyrus or Beyonce in concert. Not all of us have bad music taste.

Me! | Reviewer: Mary | 7/5/13

This song is describing me kind of. Unlike most kids my age, I`m not obsessed with Taylor Swift or 1D. I typically prefer to listen to older music like Elton John or The Goo Goo Dolls (who aren't really that old ). I also like the show Full House, although it aired a long time ago. I also love country singers like Brad Paisley. I sometimes joke that I don`t really live in this century. I may be a bit strange with my taste but I`m proud of it since the music today can be inappropriate sometimes.

Hmm... Dude. I think you're one of those stereotype 1900's kids that all they do is to call us 2000's kids all "People with no sense of music". To be honest, not all people are like that. Please stop judging everybody that we like JB or we like the other senseless rappers. However, we do like some beats and that's what the feeling of the drummer hits us. Anyway, there are modern people who hit the magazine racks with just not love songs and crazy talk about love and all. Good example is THE SCRIPT. YELLOWCARD, RISE AGAINST and LINKIN' PARK. I love the songs they made! Other than that, my friends and I are all fans of Beatles. We would also listen to the Queens once in a while and the fave of ours is Bohemian Rhapsody. I, sometimes, would stay and listen with my dad with the Aerosmith songs! Classical music like Mozart and Beethoven are usually on when I'm studying for relaxation and stuff.

So, if you think that all kids like Eminem, Nikki Minaj, Justin Bieber or Lil wayne, think again, buddy! The only rap I salute is our "Glock9" which talks about politics and problems in the country. Other than that is the EPIC RAP BATTLES OF HISTORY which taught me some of what the people have done.

Take time and mingle with some 00's kids along your street while asking them some meaningful songs. Maybe even Jason Mraz (I don't listen to him though, they say his songs are meaningful) could teach you a thing or two. That's all.

Kinda cute and catchy | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/16/12

This song has got a catchy beat, which is more than I can say for alot of what has been released in the last ten years or so. I hate the way it generalizes everything from the entire decade of the 80's to just one year. U2 was definitely making albums but it was mostly listened to by alternative music fans until 1987 when the Joshua tree was released. I grew up in that era and I'm a huge fan of all great music from the Beatles to jack white to Tom waits, but this song just throws some names together to generalize an entire decade of music. But then again it is bubble gum pop and shouldn't be takin seriously, so all you kiddies out there keep enjoying it, but be open to all music from any decade. I'm afraid if people don't appreciate real music written and performed by truly talented artists that put some feeling behind it , music is gonna be all prepackaged mass produced minimal talent soulless American idol garbage. Yep, American idol is the destruction of all things in music that are artistic and original. Sorry folks, I despise that heap of crap they call talent on there.

He is saying U2 NOT YouTube for one you tube came out way after nirvana and all the other bands or singers that are mentioned in the same I don't care what your sister thing tells you and 2 why would they put you tube in the middle of all these great BANDS like U2.

This song is amazing. It is my soundtrack song for life. It is your soundtrack song for life. It's super useful to sing at the top of your lungs on a bus (or anywhere!) in France, though this often scares other groups away. I sing it silently when I'm thinking about last summer and remembering the people. It makes me happy and a little sad with the memories, but I LOVE 1985!!!

Ah the Nostalgia | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/9/10

This song certainly brings back memories. I was singing this song, and since I was doing it off the top of my head, there were a few lines I couldn't remember. I knew the whole song except for "She rocked out to wham", "Where's the miniskirt made of snake skin", and "She hates time, make it stop"

It's funny looking back... | Reviewer: hunter04aerosmith | 3/25/10

when I was like 8 listening to this song, I had no idea what any of this stuff was. Then I forgot about the song, fell in love with classic rock, watched the Whitesnake videos, tore my hair out over DLR and Van Halen, and didn't understand why Dr. Feelgood was on my favorite classic radio station. Then I looked back at the lyrics and almost laughed out loud.

Lol, the random gibberish in the first verse...

Anyways, I think there were only a couple of lines that I wasn't able to sing off the top of my head, one of them being

Thought she'd get a hand
on a member of duran duran

Anyways, this song ROX MY SOX! :P

I hadn't even heard of this song until my mom played it on her iTunes when we were Wii bowling. I was going to turn it but the beat became addicting so now whenever I play it I automattically start singing. THIS IS THE BEST SONG EVER!

U2 is the best and most popular band in the world!!1985 was the year when they released the joshua tree album the fastest selling record of all times, its amazing but by putting a reference to u2 in the song that actually made it a hit otherwise it would kind of had sucked because lets face it anything that is not done by U2 sucks
