I believe in medication and I believe in therapy
And I believe in crystal light.
Cause I believe in me, yeah.
It's so uplifting, fuck yeah!
I barely have the motivation
They say I suffer from a lack of seratonin synapses
They happen too infrequently for me
To be functioning properly
I took the pills
I took the advice
The panic stopped
But still, I'm not right
Racing thoughts and wasted time
It's the same old story-line
This is my nursery rhyme
And it goes:
I believe in medication and I believe in therapy
And I believe in crystal light.
Cause I believe in me, yeah.
It's so uplifting, fuck yeah!
I'm barely off the medication
And now the walls are closing in again
I can't breathe and I can't bleed
Will you be my alibi?
Tell them that I truly tried
To give in.

Review about Modern Chemistry Crystal light | Reviewer: jon | 11/15/09
the line were he say i believe in crystal cause i believe in me yea is actually a referance to the original crystal light comercial as part of their jingle they say i believe in crystal cause i belive in me
This is an amazing song that is difficult to truly understand if you have never dealt with the nightmare of having a mental disorder. The nursery rhyme he talks about is the chant of "meds work, stay positive" you get fed during treatment. I like the line about crystal light; the meds are supposed to be a magic fix, just like crystal light is a diet miracle.
The second verse is about the frustration of the meds not working right, and having to deal with people continuing to encourage to chat the nursery rhyme.
In the third verse, the frustration causes him to give up on his meds. Antidepressants are known to worsen the disease when stopped abruptly. I almost died because of a similar episode. The last few lines are about the thought of suicide, a permanent fix, but still wants everyone to know that he tried to get better.
I've loved this song for many years, but only recently I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I can only now understand the pain and fear that accompanies the disorder. I sympathize with the writer.
what it means by suffering | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/9/09
okay I explain because I accually suffer from adhd bipolar depression insomnia and various other things that I cry myself to sleep with the suffering is obvious when he says nusery rhyme it means as a kid it's horrible because often if you suffer from any of these your are way smarter than other people but because of that you lose the ability to prove your smart my iq is 145 I'm failing most of my classes daily being made fun of because you have to bring meds to school avoiding the people who mistreat you so horribly you lose all social skills aka (not sure how to spell this) your synapsis are slow so you need to be able to fight back without getting physical or they send you to alc or something like that and you couldn't possibly talke stuff out with bullies mostly because no one likes you if you can't function properly and just hearing this song makes me break down and cry I have to go listen to everything is alright lol because it's true no matter how bad things are they will always get better
Finally, A song. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/29/08
Seratonin is a chemical in the brain.
People with depression don't have enough of it, because the receptors in their brain can't receive the chemicals in high enough amount. No one is sure why this happens, but seratonin is the chemical that allows us to feel happiness and joy.
So, I'm assuming he's talking about depression medication, and those who have depression tend to have some form of OCD and/or ADD/ADHD.
As a person who does suffer from these diseases I know that some doctors like to say the same thing over and over, but it still doesn't explain the suffering.
They try different things over and over, and it gets frustrating and dissapointing when you don't find results.
In the end, I've always found I stop taking prescriptions.
I always hope that I can get along without them, and everytime it happens I think that this time it will be different and I can get "better."
I think song really honestly describes this, and it's great to finally hear a song that takes out this particular frustration, and expresses it in a way that let's anyone who suffers from depression relate to it.
he is talking about a mental hospital these are all the things they do at a mental hospital but its not getting better for him and it aint working hint "nursey ryme" crystal light is what they serve as a drink in the mental hospitals ive been there for the same reason depression and that is what he is experiencing
medications | Reviewer: K.R. | 12/1/07
Last I checked the lead singer who is also the usually writer, has ADHD which is can also be also associated with anxiety issues. If you have a diagnosed issue or if you have friends with this stuff you've probably realized they often take multiple pills multiple times a day. The fight with the medication is a fight with oneself to acknowledge and deal with limitations the person was born with. Medications are always being altered because the body is always changing in response to the meds. There is no long term "fix." Some of the medications take a month or more to work and work continuously until the body has been off of it for a month. Stimulants (adderall, concerta, riddlin etc) are known to have "crash effects" so my guess is he's most likely reffering to the crash effect that happen as this medication leaves his body. but it could also be that he was removed from the meds. The use of drugs without supervision is usually considered to be self medicating

if any of you actually knew anything about MCS, you'd know that the lead singer, Justin Pierre has had many drug problems in his life, which is why it seems that many of their songs are drug related. In a huge article in AP (Alternative Press) magazine, they go into great detail about Justin's problems and how the rest of the band is coping with them
However, yes they are a great fucking band and i love them to death.
drugs? | Reviewer: farmboyjad | 10/23/07
Could you explain more how you're interpreting it? I don't see many drug references, except the medication, which could be taken another way...
the way I read it, he's talking about depression or anxiety, as in the diseases. This is how the medications come in: he was prescribed antidepressants, but they were causing side effects, so they took him back off them in the second verse.
As for other proof? He states that he has a lack of serotonin, which is a cause of depression. And then there are "racing thoughts and wasted time," "walls closing in," and "i can't breathe," sensations which are all related to anxiety.
So that's my take on it.
