It is not a love song to another person, but a love song about an occupation. The song is clearly about a cartographer (maker of maps) who loves her/his job but must publish the map (Pack up/Don't stray), thus losing it to the public. The onerous choice she must make to share her work of art means self-detachment and a loss of self-identity (Well, my kind’s your kind; I’ll stay the same!). "But dont stray" she sings and what is the thing that you need the most when you are lost? A map. And why does he/she need a to find back? Because She loves him/her more than anybody else does. "Well my kind's your kind" definitely means something like that they are like each other and after that she promises to be the same. Makes sense?
