GREAT SONG | Reviewer: rebecca | 7/1/09

okay okay okay. LISTEN. lol Within Temptation is an amazing band. sharon den adel's voice is just simply amazing. that's all there is to it. Evanescence is GOTHIC ROCK. not SYMPHONIC METAL, which this is, in my opinion. i dont even get why people compare wt and evanescence, besides the fact that both have female lead singers and have metal influences throughout. nightwish, sirenia, and lacuna coil are the closest bands i have found to evanescence. i love evanescence and wt, both. but evanescence is a different genre. evanescence doesnt have orchastras and stuff like within temptation does. they are either piano or just guitars and etc. they are both amazing bands in THEIR GENRES. evanescence is not metal, they're gothic rock. everyone should know that if you really listen to them. amy lee is amazing, and so is sharon den adel. lol man, sounds like i do too much internet browsing on bands...but yeah, thats what i think. OH and Linkin Park is just pop rock now. they really went down hill with their new album. just like how atreyu is now mainstream metal. burns my buttons, i tell ya. haha.

Amazing | Reviewer: Stacie | 6/29/09

Truthfully their music scared me at first, but after listening to it for so long I've grown fond of it. The lead singer has very unique voice and so it's hard to compare it to other bands in the same genre. Great song in the long run.

Just because you say it doesn't make it so. First of all, someone who loves a band with ANNETTE OLSON in it should NOT be calling Sharon den Adel weird. ^^ (I'm a Tarja fan, obviously.) And I'd like to see you tap dance with those bloody little bastards on. Paula Abdul is high half the time; when you're stoned you pull things off that you wouldn't dare do sober. Besides that, why the hell you would TAPDANCE to "Truth Beneath the Rose" or "Jillian" or "Enter" (especially "Enter") is beyond me. Aside from that, people, WT's from the Netherlands, not America. I would guess the style of dancing might be a little different there-and if not, who cares? Not every band has to have a singer who dances madly across the screen in a music video or breakdances. That's just Sharon's thing, something that makes her a little different. As is wearing corset tops, although that's not nearly as unique (Tarja Turunen, Simone Simons). Note: the fact that she can pull it off after having two children (Luna Eva and Robert Aidan, congrats to Sharon and Robert) astounds me. Let's see your precious Abdul bear/raise two kids and do that. And look up the Black Symphony performance of "Our Solemn Hour". Watch it. If that ain't "belting it out" then I'm a goddamn monkey's uncle.

To Blackvampire: I'm sorry, nu metal say wha? Linkin Park is not metal. In any form. They're rock to pop rock to hard rock, it really all depends on the album in question. Nu metal's more Slipknotty (blegh, but that's just my opinion, to each their own.) I agree, however, with your exasperation to band comparison and your assessment of Evanescence. I listen to them, I admit it, but they're way too fixated on failed relationships. Who was the idiot calling them metal? They're (I believe) currently calling themselves some obscure subgenre of rock. Evanescence's songs are often delicate ("Bring Me to Life"; "Whispers"; "Like You".) "Call Me When You're Sober" is the only song I can think of besides areas of "Lithium" where Amy Lee really starts to "belt it out".

I LOVE this song...WT rocks. But I'm SO SICK of people always comparing bands. I've heard the Evanescence and Lacuna Coil arguments before, but Nightwish and Avril Lavigne and My Chemical Romance and especially Linkin Park are new and the last three are really shocking. I listen to all these guys and ALL of them are AWESOME. Some more so than others, but that's just according to me. Why can't the bands live in peace without people walking all over one band and putting the other on a pedestal? There's no use comparing them anyway, since they're all different genres. According to me (emphasis on those words), WT is gothic metal (Jillian still maintains the goth), Lacuna Coil is some form of metal...? (I don't know; I haven't been listening to them that long), Nightwish is symphonic metal, Evanescence is gothic rock, Avril Lavigne is punk rock, pop or goth (depending on whether it's Let Go, TBDT, or Under My Skin in question), Linkin Park is nu metal (with the exception of Minutes to Midnight), and I'm going to call MCR hard punkish rock with a gothic edge. I know there are (gebnerally well-based)arguments for WT being symphonic metal, and I have no idea about Lacuna Coil but I'd imagine they were argued to be gothic metal (?). But still, even if two of the bands are the same genre, they definitely all have their own unique styles that make them untouchable by the others. Comparing apples and orangles doesn't get anyone anywhere. Sharon's movements are unique, but that's just her style. She's not the same type of music as Paula Abdul and I can't see why anyone would gtapdance to a Within Temptation song or could manage to while they were singing it. Amy Lee's voice (and the Lacuna Coil female lead's voice for that matter) have a wonderful power to them--different than Sharon's voice, but not less in any way. The only way someone could say that Evanescence's voice is 'belt it out' or 'not as good' is if you heard Call Me When You're Sober and decided to diss them over that. Go back and listen to Lithium. Within Temptation has a variety of songs, but Evanescence (and there was a difference between The Open Door and Fallen: there weren't any songs with themes such as ones in Your Star(depending on your interpretation), The Only One, Lose Control, Good Enough, Weight of the World, Snow White Queen, and All That I'm Living For and that's half the album right there. I heard on the review for some other song (I think Comalies b Lacuna Coil?) that Evanescence was percieved as a POSER in the metal genre. Evanescence isn't even metal in the first place!!!!

just some questions | Reviewer: abcedfgnightwishrocks | 6/17/09

don't you think sharon is weird? the way she moves, i hardly think waving your hands egyptian style is considered dancing. maybe she could try to move her whole body? and why does she wear corsets if she cant sing as well in them? high heels are no prob, if paula abdul can tapdance in heels, so can sharon. also, i find the album pictures weird. sharon looks, well, ugly in that mother earth wig. when actually she is pretty (in enter). so, i think that with better packaging, WT would be much more attractive. of course, their songs rock, jillian is my fav, but who's gonna listen to them if they take one look at mother earth's picture and flees?

Rush | Reviewer: The Poet | 6/6/09

Adrenaline Rush!! Amazing lyrics and energy! Definitely unique power. I am the only one in my group of friends who really loves Within Temptation. One of my friends likes Nightwish and Evanescence (so do I) but she listens to so many others that I can't keep up. My other friends like Jonas Brothers and other pop music. It gets lonely.

I don't consider WT to be gothic. If they want to call themselves that, fine. I prefer to avoid labels. Who they are and what they do, isn't as important to me as the music. I mean, they are a band to create music. No one should be afraid to listen to them just because they are older than 14. I predict I will be listening to Wihtin Temptation for the rest of my life. WT is awesome!! I hope they keep it up.

I'm from Malaysia and i love WT | Reviewer: lina | 6/3/09

I agree with Jonas.I'm 25-year-old lecturer form Malaysia very adhere to this band. Unfortunately, in Malaysia nobody knows Within Temptation and its very hard to get their CD/DVD. However, music unite us guys. Some may said that their song bit theaterical, but i think it is symphonic metal. Some sort of music promoted by Nightwish. For the first time i never thought that the vocalist of symphonic metal will be like this, and the WT change my perspective. Black Symphony The MEtropole Orchestra concert with WT such a great performance. Luckily in our country u have an access to WT , but in malaysia it s hard to find WT. I only able to hear their song through YouTube, Vids MySpace.

Great song! | Reviewer: Great song. | 6/3/09

Well they're always going to be compared, i read an article and singer Sharon Den Adel said they always get compared to other symphonic metal bands, in america its Evanescence, in Italy they get compared to Lacuna Coil, in Finland, its Nightwish.
They can't stop it, it's just what happens, and theyre all great bands. Just for different reasons :)
Same status as Avril Lavigne? Are you for real? She can't sing live for Sh*t. She can't sing at all!!
haha
I have Black Symphony as well, it's fucking brilliant. I love Stand My Ground, when the whole crowd sings! Amazing.

Great band | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/24/09

"This is crap. Here in Sweden nobody would call this goth. Here this band has the same status as Linkin Park, Avril Lavigne and My Chemical Romance (I realize that these band don't play the same kind of music. but they are considered equally lame). Only fourteen year olds are allowed to listen to music like this without being mocked to death here."

I guess Sweden hasn't got good taste in music then ? lol

Take it for what it is or don't simple as, why bitch about it...

Great song by a great band going from strength to strength.

Comment by Someone was spot on.

@jonas... just because you think it's crappy doesn't mean that everyone thinks it's crappy... the world doesn't really revolve around what you think so please stop puking out words you "think" are FACT.

....
i like the song. i like the lyrics. although i find their songs a bit ...uhmmm "theatrical?" (just from my point of view)... i'm still a fan...
....
and there's really no point in comparing a band with another band because they've got their own style and genre
