To me... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/4/08
It reminds me of satan. With the whole poisoning the truth and selling the soul bit. It's very Lucifer-ish. Satan is the biggest deciever around, it's what I thought instantly hearing this song, my friend too.
General HE | Reviewer: Andrei | 3/2/08
I believe that "he" is somewhat general. It's not a certain person, but rather a human type individualised through the personal pronoun "he". Of course, it can always be God, since most people are like slaves to him. But I strongly believe that the band would have had trouble with the Church if they used God as a slavemaster in their song. It's very disputable.
All in all, the song is very good, no matter what the meaning of "he" is.
This song is Amazing | Reviewer: Zoë | 2/18/08
Well, not only is the way this song is composed genius, it has very meaningful lyrics. The song itself is beautiful, but if you have alot of insight, you'll understand exactly what they mean.
Frankly, The "he" in this song is to me someone I know, who of course is not as bad as in the song, but exibits many of the things they say.
As for the comment above, I do see how some could think it's God, but I believe it isn't, I'm not some God-fearing Catholic, but I believe God is Good, all powerful and has anger, sadness etc emotions like us, but a good spirit and power. "he" in the song is evil, deceiving, lying, cheating, dangerous. I've been "slave" to this kind of person before. It's not God.
BUt as always, wonderful song Within Temptation!
I dont get it | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/3/08
when i heard angles, i thought that it was about the "fallen angels", being satans people. but now i read this songs lyrics, and i almost think that the "deceiver" is god?
