------ performed by Within Temptation

amazingly haunting song | Reviewer: Lin | 6/21/09

wow this song is terrific! i first listened to it because my friend said that my vocal fits for within temptation's songs and so i tried to youtube them. and the result is i had fallen head over heels over this song. can anybody here recommend other good within temptation songs?

anw, people should cease bashing twilight's fans, they are mostly just kids who haven't been graced with other work of literature with deeper values. poor them...

wow. sad. | Reviewer: DianFire | 6/5/09

@ Patty: Hun, no one even understood your post. "Lrn 2 spk contmpry enliszh b4 u post, k?"

Amen to SilverNyx, Seven Angels, and Anais. Look, "Angels" is a fantastic song by an amazing band (as a sidenote: Black Symphony kicked ass). Apply it however you want, just know that:

A.) "Angels" was written way before Meyer ever got that Mormon wet dream or whatever that inspired her to write those ill-narrated, impossible-to-follow, constantly self-contradicting**, unresearched excuses for "vampire books" (Seriously. Heather Brewer writes far better material than Meyer... and Brewer's a children fic author.)
[**Edward's hair is described as "bronze" and then as "golden". So... he got a dye job? Or do vampires' HAIR magically change color, too? And the entire "imprinting" thing was just thrown in there and didn't correlate at all from chapter to chapter. There are examples throughout the series. And I'm sorry, but in "New Moon", the whole "blank pages" thing to represent the months that Bella apparently couldn't function because her Teddy Eddy left her is not creativity. It's a character weakness and a sign of a lazy writer.]

B.) "Angels" has an excellent music video that I recommend all who enjoy this song should see, and should clear a few things up for those fuzzy on the whole "religion" thing

C.) No. Sharon's not a witch. Robert is not a warlock. Eva Luna is not a changeling. Ruud is not a troll. The others are not golems. Yes, they're people. As in humans. No, they're not Satanic. I've been listening to and following the band since fifth grade, I think I'd know.

D.) Apparently, I am in a slowly-growing minority: I am so sick of the fundamentalist Christians telling everyone that metal is the work of Satan/Lucifier/The Dark Lord (yeah, that's what they refer to him as now. *cough* Voldemort? *cough*). And I'm getting annoyed at the subsection of metalheads who are running around screaming "F*CK THE CHRISTIANS, I'MA BE ME!" (The second half of that sentence, I'm ok with. The first half is just bad manners.) According to the sermons I've heard, I'm quite surprised flames haven't come spewing out of my radio speakers by now and that Beezlebub hasn't crawled out of my kitchen tile grouting to rip my dyed hair out by its roots and engulf my sinning ears in hellfire, then to drag me to hell by virtue of his fly army because of my general sinful nature. Seriously, I think we'd know if the chief fallen angel was attempting to communicate with evildoers through music, don't you? People have listened to rock songs backward to see if they're really getting brainwashed. Trust me. There's nothing there.

To wrap it up: shut up and enjoy the song... please.

You forgot Avarice, Seven Angels. Not trying to be an utter bitch, honestly, I'm just letting you know.

WHAT? | Reviewer: Anais | 5/31/09

Before the misspelled post I didn't get, I just wanted to mention how right SilverNyx and Seven Angels... are. Like, really right. I've read Stephenie Meyer, Jane Austen and Anne Rice (all of them at the age of eleven), and I'd like to tell all of you Twilight-obsessed that the obsession will pass. I liked the story, because i adore vampires and such, but that's about it. Edward Cullen is not a vampire in the mythological sense, I'd have preferred him had he actually bitten anyone intentionally in the book. But that's just my opinion. My friend was obsessed too, but it passed as I shoved Anne Rice into her face. I did, really. Hearing people moan about sparkles gets annoying after a minute or two.

Either way, you people should either start reading serious literature, so that you can look further than your local bookstore or try listening to Within Temptation without Twilight in your mind. It's an insult to the band that you listen to them not because of their music but because of some popular series.

Go get the books earlier mentioned in Seven Angels... post!

ok this song is just aHmazin, and seriously GET OVER TWILIGHT not everything relates to it! I mean im a Twilight fan, i luv all the books but still relating basically every song to twilight is really annoyinngggg!

Hmm.. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/31/09

I feel as though this song is greatly over analyzed... It is simple. She fell in love with someone who betrayed her. That's it. No satanic undertones, or Twilight relations. Don't take away from the integrity of this beautifully written song.

great song | Reviewer: patty | 5/25/09

this a gret aong thadn the tiwlight seirs and movies rock. I'm atiwa hard and cotnemrpy but reiglous chriitan. now think it suits new miono, becuase it abotu betryal and well in way Edward sort of betrya yr. so maybe Bella would feel deiced.

You poor saps | Reviewer: Seven Angels of the Deciever | 5/19/09

1. SilverNyx is propably the most intellegent of the entire lot. Most modern day vampiric literature is choked with Hollywood cliches and stuff. Though there are a few good ones like the Otherworld series by Yasmine Galenhorn and the Cassid Palmer series by Karen Chance. On the manga front, Vampire Knight by Masturi Hino and Trinity Blood (forgot the manga-kas). As for literary jewels: The Secret Garden, the Wizard of Oz, Pride and Pridejuce, Sense and Sensiblty, Roots, The Adventures of Huckelberry Finn, Tom Sawyer, The Street of a Thousand Blossoms, Call of the Wild, Shiloh, the DragonCrown War Cycle, the Night Angel trilogy, the Hobbit, the Simarillion, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the Temeraire series, Of Mice and Men, The Grapes of Wrath, and anything by Shakespeare. (Note, this is my opinion. Don't go apeshit because you don't like some of the books/series on the list. It's also a mix of modern literature and classical literature)

2. Just because bands like Within Temptation, Nightwish, After Forever, Epica, Krypteria, Sirenia, Xandria, and Autumn play gothic/symphonic metal doesn't mean they are witches/evil people. If my history is correct the Spanish Iquistion targeted mainly Jews and that happened in the 1300s. So like seven hundred years ago. And my knowledge of history is very good for example the Last Samurai takes place in the Meiji Era of Japanese history, warrior class women knew how to fight, Pearl Harbour was on Sunday, December 7, 1941 (seriously people don't know this) FDR was the only US president to serve four terms (thats 16 years), Hiroshima was on August 3, 1945 and three days later Nagasaki was bombed on August 6, 1945. So yeah, pretty good in history. Metal bands aren't the work of the devil.

Besides, my cat thinks everyone other than SilverNyx (Nyx BTW is one of the rivers of Hades, the other is called Styx. Or Nyx may be a lesser Greek god...) are asses!

May sloth guide you, and greed bind you. May wrath crush your foes, and envy enrage them. Allow gluttony to feed you, and lust to ravish you. And when you have sinned each of the six sins, embrace their lord, their liege and master, atop his Throne of Vanity; succumb to pride and once you've taste each of the Deciever's Seven Angels then welcome the cold embrace of the Deciever.

Amused but annoyed enough to write a review | Reviewer: SilverNyx | 5/16/09

Wow...I've heard of controversies and conspiracies, but this DEFINITELY takes the cake. 'Angels' being Satanic? The plot of the song fits Twilight? It is truly amazing what the human mind can come up with.

First of all, being a Christian (Roman Catholic, mind you), I find it difficult to believe that anything about 'Angels' is satanic. There is a very clear story in the lyrics and the music video, so I fail to see why the debate is still ongoing. Yes, I realise that overzealous people do exist and that they do plague pages such as these, but really, is it necessary to scream to the world that these individuals are idiots? Not all Christians are so fanatical, you know, and simply shouting F**K CHRISTIANS is not just annoying, it is downright rude.

Secondly, what is all the fuss about Twilight? I have read all four books, and personally I find them to be exercises in cliche (boring cliche at that), but what does it have to do with this song? Apart from the term 'sparkling angel', and the so-called 'emotional similarities', there is NOTHING here that can possibly be related to Twilight. And, for the record, Mary Sue is an accepted literary term, even though it is more commonly used in fanon rather than canon. I can't comment on Stephanie Meyer, mostly because I do not know her as personally, and partly because I do not think I WANT to know a person that can write a series like Twilight and get away with it. I believe someone here wrote something along the lines of it being a 'literary jewel'? Please, I wouldn't even consider Anne Rice's vampires worthy of such a title, let alone Meyer's. No offence, but people who can consider tripe like that as literary gems REALLY need to get out more.

Still, it is a beautiful song. Such a pity that it is mired in such inconsequential, albeit amusing, arguments.

P.S: Also, insults have a lot more bite to them when phrased eloquently, and written in PROPER English. I don't think I find it very threatening when someone writes that 'u lot r idiots.' If you can take the time to write a lengthy review, then you can bloody well take the time to write it properly.

WT = TW!? NO! | Reviewer: TUL Angel | 5/7/09

Oh god. *facepalms* This song does NOT suit Twilight one bit, and it's quite sickening to see that everyone is so obsessed with a series that could be comprehended and possibly thought up by a nine year old.
If you want real vampires, read Anne Rice's vampire series. It's better than Twilight tenfold.
The song is about betrayal, not sparkling vampires!

Great Song! | Reviewer: nemo | 5/6/09

I first heard this song when I stole my sister's ipod. Wow. It really echoed within me when this guy told me he'd love to date me and then turned around and made out with my friend. Some friend. She knew I really liked him, but decided it would be fun to make out with him right in front of me. The vocals are great in this song, very powerful, they seem to echo within.
