I'm a fan of NIRVANA and I must confess that the first time I listened to that song I didn't finished it. It was offensive, somehow... But then I realized there was a good thing in all this as well as a bad one... I will tell you both of them so that you can help me figure it out: What really matters here is what would Kurt Cobain himself think about this song, and don't forget the video. Well, here comes the two different views: 1- As Cobain came to hate this song for its popularity, which killed the GRUNGE and the "underground" feature of NIRVANA, he would find it funny and most of all like a revenge, for it would be making look ridiculous the most popular song that everybody (except NIRVANA) loved, and the one that brougt NIRVANA to the commercial stage... And all great fan of Kurt should know that what he really hated was commerciality, and that it led him to his grave... This is the good one, but... 2- Weird Al Yancovich, a definitely smaller band than the GRUNGE spirit NIRVANA, tries to get money making a parody (which is after all a kind of cover 'cause music is the same! Only that played by non-important people whom didn't added nothing new to music). And I think Kurt would hate that... One band getting fame thanks to 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'was enough... And it didn't end up pretty well... Now, my opinion is that all we NIRVANA fans, as NIRVANEERS, shouldn't support this commercial song which helps Weird getting money... but we are allowed to laugh at it, as it is really funny and I think Cobain would do it too... Concluding my review I would like to add that 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' was , in 1991, the youth anthem, and it will always be of the greatest songs ever! Forever NIRVANEER, Martín.
