Song meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/3/09
The song is actually about Spencer's addiction to cocaine. He struggled with it for a very long time in his life and told Alternative Press, "You know how some people have a good family or a girlfriend that's always there for them and never fails? That was [what] drugs [were] for me. That was my weakness." Most of Define the Great Line is about him struggling with his addiction, although his religion is also a major focal point.
possibly the best.. | Reviewer: daniel knower | 3/21/09
this is one of the best UO songs off all three albums. They have changed so much from what they were at first. This song is just good because it has good anthemic lines and a beat you can rock too.
Simply put. | Reviewer: Kevin | 3/7/09
This song is so simple, yet beautiful. I believe it's all a part of Spencer's subconscious. He felt himself slipping from his faith. Thus, 'slipping through the cracks in the floor'. I think this song was to be considered a call out to God for help. For him to be saved, and whole again. I bet when Spencer wrote this song, he was seeing himself from the other side of the glass. Looking at himself, he saw a wreck. And grabbed at a pen, and a slice of paper; jotting down this song. Thank you Underoath..for saving my life.
True meaning? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/28/08
I really think that this song is about dying without knowing Christ as your personal Saviour because first of all Underoath is a Christian band, and their lyrical themes are in the sense of their faith. Its talking about in an instant dying and finding out that what you thought to be the after life is a complete hell. Being the culprit for one thing and anther, walking through the walls. This song is chilling because its portraying spiritual torment. Quotes from the song like "i swear ive slipped right through the cracks in the floor
its so easy when its pulling me under" and "now i can see things from the outside and
i will sit here
with no place in mind" and "
i can hear the unsatisfying silence
my mouth is open, but none of you can hear me". I think that the last quote I can hear the unsatisfying slience...is talking about old memories and when you had the chance but refse to take it your left with something to grieve about.
Awesome | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/26/08
First of all, Matty, your wrong. This is the right name of the song... but anyways, this song is amazing and actually my fav song on Define the Great Line...
Anthem much?! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/8/08
i have to find a self anthem for a class in school and i definitly want it to be this one. Amazing lyrics.. i think its about how sometimes you can get depressed or hurt and keep yourself there.. like you dont want to help yourself, especially the last line i think it shows how people do things like self mutilate to cry out for help but not in a literal sense, but at the same time they want to hide it ... this song to me is all about internal struggle with change!
right on mike | Reviewer: wonka | 12/1/07

This isn't Everyone Looks So Good From Here. This is 'A Moment Suspended In Time'... Both equally great songs, but change the name of the song :]

Underoath at their best | Reviewer: Mike Kish | 6/27/07
Underoath has always been a good band but have different sounds with all their cd's. This is heavier than "Their only chasing safety" and this is probably the best song on the album. Heavy guitar and even heavier vocals. Amazing.
