With or without you is my all time favourite song, its the song that for me i never get sick of. Bono himself has said that the lyrics are about temptation to cheat on his wife, and that the most important line in the song 'and you give yourself away' signifies that his body is no longer his to use to cheat and that he has in fact given it to his wife. The song creates a special mood, mostly through the use of edges 'infinite guitar' only two of this special guitar where ever created. This is the song that for me changed the way i look at music, its what made music a part of my life that i cannot now live without, the lyrics of this song also inspired me to read others and write my own.

I think that Curtis had a good point. But just like many of u i got this girl who i cant live with or without. Shes awesome and terribible.

This song is the perfect song for me.. I dated this guy for a while and we are no longer together, but we've been struggling on and off for the past year.. I've tried countless amounts of times to just let it all go, move on.. but I can't.. no matter how hard I try.. there's a piece of him that's always with me. I want to be with him so incredibly much right now.. but I can't be with him anymore. This song just brings back every single memory along with the obstacles that we've experienced. It hurts but I just love to listen to it..

TSJ on page 2 posted a great comment on the meaning of this song. I agree with TSJ. This song is about God for sure. no doubt. it fits everything perfectly. but u know, i think this song might even be about doubt. and bono is sort of being real to god. mabye the "SHE" he is refering to is someone who he might fall to sexual sin with. cause it grabs a lot of us guys and its hard to get out of. with or without you. i think its a song about faith and doubt. yet we sin and doubt, God still gives himself away meaning how Jesus died for our sins to be forgiven. he keeps giving us his love and his gifts and his ect. Yet we still sin but he takes the sin away when we confess! thats all it takes and God is still giving to each and every one of us.

I've known a person that i can't be with but i can't live with out!That person is moving to another neigborhood and i might never see him again!I was in love with him for 4 years and now he is moving......!!!

I've found that person, impossible to be with, but whom I can't live without. I don't need this song to remember him, but it really gets to me, helps me drain the hurt inside. It's beautiful, moving, touching. I miss you E. How much longer will I have to wait???

I love this song even though it makes me sad...it reminds me of my one true love and the hurt, pain and sadness that lost love can bring. I still love him so so much, and he loves me, but we can never be together again. A lesson, treasure the one you love!

this song is a classic..and i love it, it has a special place in my heart...it shows passion and loss and the fact that without that person who makes you smile just at the sight of them, you almost can't live...

Very beautiful song. The singer has got a blessed voice. The song is inspiring and it takes us to anywhere we want to be in our imagination, we see many images of our whole lives within this song.

I think this song is an outward expression of the ideal love, and then not having it. Depending on the person and their personal opinion, this song could be about religion, faith, Christ, among many other things. I just think the words are put together beautifully and the emotion that is so evident in his voice is absolutely stunning. I've known this song for over 10 years, and it's still one of my favorites.

i love this song becos the words that bring feeling to my heart. i remember my love when she was with me & now the without her my life has been a hell.

The first verse is talking about the image of Jesus on the cross.. "the stone set in your eyes..the thorn twist in your side" "Sleight of hand and twist of fate.. on a bed of nails she makes me wait.." Speaking of The serpent in the garden of Eden who tricks Eve into disobeying God and biting the fruit from the tree of knowledge. "She makes me wait.." Eve disobeying God is what destroyed our co-existence with God. We have to wait for Jesus' return to be reunited with God. "Through the storm we reach the shore.. you give it all but I want more.." God has given us everything, promised us everything.. even given his only begotten son for us.. he gave his life for us... and he wants more (most of us want more). "and you give yourself away..." God gives of himself freely... giving, giving and expecting nothing in return but for us to believe in him and his son. "my hands are tied, my body bruised.. she's got me with nothing to win and nothing left to lose.." This is talking about how we're beat down in life, sometimes to the point where our morals, or beliefs, etc are compromised for our survival. "..and you give yourself away.." I believe that he's possibly confused about why sometimes someone is helped when someone else is in possibly a more serious situation which requires immediate action from God and they don't get it. "I can't live with or without you" Is talking about our relationship with God/Jesus. We can't live with Him, because he's "not here.. " physically. Can't live without Him, because even though he isn't here.. He is the one we look to for guidance, love, etc.

I love this song. It's the most beautiful song about love you can find. I want to cry every time I hear it and remember the girl I lost forever.
