The sentiment can be appreciated, but the song refers to the immigrants who came here with nothing and built their lives and their new country literally from the ground up, without forgetting where they came from. To me, that's the most powerful message of the song. It wasn't aimed at the everyday citizens upholding the peace, but rather those new to the country who had to make new lives for themselves.
