The Reviews about Pride (In The Name Of Love) (page 2/ 3)
------ performed by U2

More than MLK | Reviewer: David | 2/3/08

Like most poetry, this song is about MLK. It is about Jesus. It is about those who namelessly sacrifice in the name of love. Attempts to limit it and pigeon hole the song into one meaning destroys the broader meaning of the lyrics: Indeed, "What more in the name of Love?"

Jesus and MLK | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/10/08

This song actually likens Jesus and MLK Jr.

The second verse is definitely about Jesus
(betrayed by a kiss, barbwire fence, etc.)

The third verse is definitely about MLK Jr.
(Free at last, Assassinated April 4th in Memphis, etc.)

The first verse is about both, or people in general coming for a similar purpose. The title "Pride" is another reference to MLK Jr., Jesus spoke of humility and serving others. While MLK Jr. demanded that African American men have pride in themselves (a very good thing). No one could take his pride.

The song seems to be in his honor, and the reference to Jesus could be a compliment to MLK Jr. or just a juxtaposition to show similarities (giving their lives for a greater cause: Jesus dying for the sins of the world, MLK Jr. dying for equality)

So Beautifu. So True. So Possible | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/1/08

Yes, it is about Jesus and MLK Jr, both. But it's about everyone who has: Not only other famous people, but anyone who comes and gives compassionate aid and then leaves, maybe never to be seen again, someone we don't know, that just serves. Loves. People who teach and inspire and are selfish, strong enough to stand against the wind of meanness and hate and unforgiving...

Rattle And Hum | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/2/08

This really one of the best songs ever. But in order to see who this song is about, just listen to it on the Rattle And Hum CD. It's a live version, for those who don't know.
Closer to the end, Bono specifically says, closer to the end, "For the Reverend Martin Luther King, sing!"
I respect the free interpretations about Jesus and all, but you're just off the mark there.

jesus | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/28/07

they couldnt take jesus pride because of his humble nature there is so much in this song that sounds like him caught on barbed wire fence the scourging he really is alive.

Double Entendre | Reviewer: NuJazz Philosophy | 12/28/07

This epic song is obviously referring to BOTH Jesus & Dr. King. It is about selflessness, sacrifice & being misunderstood. This is maybe U2's best song yet and truely one of the most prophetic songs of our age.

x | Reviewer: xime | 12/3/07

this song was made for martin luther king jr. look the part that says... Early morning, April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride ... that was the dead of mlk jr ... not jesus ....

pride (in the name of love) | Reviewer: jsonphil2014 | 11/12/07

U2 Love | Reviewer: Luna | 11/4/07

"One man cut on a barbed-wire fence" the crown of thorns, "One man, he resist" Jesus' temptation in the desert by the Devil, "One man wash on an empty beach" Jesus baptized in the Jordan, "One man betrayed with a kiss" Judas giving Jesus to the Pharisees.
And he did it "in the name of Love!" Martin Luther King Jr. was a spokesperson for human rights and he was assassinated at a motel in Memphis,Tennessee ...he helped the coloured people of America gain equal rights. Bono tells about his famous speech in Memphis, Tennissee

REAL LOVE | Reviewer: Alejandro | 10/3/07

the man who talk U2 in this song is Jesus, rememember the sentence: One man betrayed with a kiss... because Judas Iscariote give a kiss to show who was the Lord, hours later he died for the persons who he loved, he could not run away of his destiny...this a REAL LOVE.
