It's a beautiful phenomena that needs not be ruined by imposing your own interpretation of the lyrics on others. Sometimes I think music is the only thing we humans have going for us. I mean seriously, animals take better care of this place than we do. I admire the crew behind "The Matrix" coming up with the definition of humans as a virus, multiplying until all resources are consumed then moving somewhere else. We don't belong here. We belong somewhere where we can't screw anything up. I don't think this place exists. We've passed the point of no return. And no one with any power will stand up and do something about it. The millions that die of AIDS in Africa are screaming. Few people hear them. More people hear the latest Katy Perry song. The planet is screaming as we hunt endangered species and cut down forests. But few hear it. More people hear about the latest burger they absolutely have to try at Macdonalds. It's like we're all living in denial. I feel guilty for living in a developed nation while hundreds of millions of people suffer. What is wrong with us? Why will no one just cut the crap! I'm sick of idiots like George Bush being put in power so they can even worsen our predicament, if it can be done. Who the fuck is responsible for putting an idiot like that in power? What other atrocities are we capable of I wonder? Who let that Bush idiot send all those fathers, brothers, sons, husbands, wives, sisters, mothers into Iraq to get slaughtered on the frontline. But the numbers that died in Iraq are nothing compared to the numbers of Chinese that died in an earthquake recently. But that story on our national news was about no. 3 on the priority list, next to Angelina Jolie's new baby and then on the top of the list some other celebrity's tragic life. You Christians are so afraid of going to Hell. Guess what? Like Alan Moore's Rorschach said, I reckon you're already there! You're just a bit further away from the hellfire, safe in you're well fed and sheltered lives. But don't worry, when the nuclear holocaust happens when some idiot from North Korea, Iran or Russia (you know, that massive country full of bad guys that sustained some of the heaviest losses in WWII when Germany tried to invade and then was thanked by America by generations of hatred and Cold War) has a bad day you'll feel the heat alright. I would like to see your faces just before you're melted, to hear you say those words: there is no god. I feel like urging everyone to just stop and think for a second. JUST A SECOND. And in that second see what is wrong with the world. And actually do something about it instead of living in denial. Anyway these lyrics are simply words coming from deep inside Bono when he's felt helpless and needs an outlet. His context i.e. his religious beliefs and this woman he speaks of are reflected in the lyrics. Nevertheless I'm very interested in all your interpretations however, and reading these reviews has provided at least half an hour of entertainment. Especially Josh's responses. Here, since you know soooo much about the bible and historical content, you should know, Christianity is ALL A LIE. Horus, the sun god, or god of light, one of the Egyptian gods, was born on December 25th, 3000bc, to virgin Isis. His birth was accompanied by a star in the east, which in turn, 3 kings came to adorned him. At the age of 12, he was a prodigy child teacher, he was baptized at the age of 30, he had 12 disciples he traveled with, performing miracles such as healing the sick and walking on water. He was betrayed, crucified, buried for 3 days and was resurrected. There were several figures in history before Jesus Christ, who all shared these attributes. The birth and death attributes, is all astrological. THe star in the east, is Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, on december 24th, line up with the 3 brightest stars in Orions Belt, these 3 stars are called Three Kings, and they have been called this long before Jesus Christ came into existence. The Three Kings, and the Star in the east all point to the place of the sunrise on december 25th, this is why the Three Kings 'follow' the Star in the East, to locate the sunrise, the birth of the sun, or "gods sun" and sun sounds exactly like son. This represents the Birth of figures such as Horus and Jesus Christ and many others. Then, in the northern hemisphere, the sun slowly gets lower and lower each day during the fall, until from december 22-24th, the sun stops moving south, and stays at the same degree in the sky, and during this 3 day pause, the sun stays in the vicinity of the Souther Cross (crux) constellation, then on December 25th, the Sun moves 1 degree north, meaning longer and warmer days to come. This means the Sun died on the Cross, was dead for 3 days, and then was ressurrected, which sounds familiar right? almost like, Christ and other religious figures in the past? BECAUSE IT IS, you think I am wrong, go buy a cheap telescope, an object, that uses mirrors and glass lenses to reflect images to your eye, and watch for what I told you. You can not deny simple fact, and to deny facts in the name of writings wrote by another human, is idiotic. Here, since you know soooo much about the bible and historical content, you should know, Christianity is ALL A LIE. Yes, I said it, ALL A LIE, you speak of opening up your mind and listening to the truth, yet you only listened to what you wanted to hear, and that is the Bible, did you for one second ever read historical documents. If you had, maybe you would realize, Christianity is a collection of stolen and reused ideas that had been in other religions long before Christianity ever came into existence. Lots of Christian 'stories' are hardly feasible, they lack sufficient evidence, and sometimes contradict them self on geographical location, surely these people couldnt mistake some of the only rivers in the entire middle east? I mean lets look at, a view things here that are odd. We'll start with Egyptian Religion 1. Horus, the sun god, or god of light, one of the Egyptian gods, was born on December 25th, 3000bs, to virgin Isis. His birth was accompanied by a star in the east, which in turn, 3 kings came to adorned him. At the age of 12, he was a prodigy child teacher, he was baptized at the age of 30, he had 12 disciples he traveled with, performing miracles such as healing the sick and walking on water. He was betrayed, crucified, buried for 3 days and was resurrected. Noahs Ark, God comes to Noah, to build an ark, cause he wishes to destroy his creation, tells him to collect 2 of every animal and board them on his ship, etc etc. Just, the thought of this completely absurd idea, Do you possibly think, you can make a lion, walk on to a ship first off, then live on it, with other animals that would have been prey to it? Secondly, several hundred years before the estimated date of Noahs Ark, another story had been told almost similar, Gods planned to flood the earth, one tells a man to build a ark, he collects animals, etc etc etc. This story is called Atra-Hasis.
