This is what I wrote: In the song, “I Still Haven’t Found What I am Looking for” by U2, it is showing that a man is still looking for something to fill the gap in his heart. This is showing post modernism because he is looking for something that is right for “him”. Just from reading the lines, “I have spoke with the tongues of angels, I have held the hand of a devil, it was warm in the night, I was cold as a stone”, it show that this man has gone to the extremes looking for someone, something. “I have climbed highest mountains, I have run through the fields, Only to be with you, Only to be with you, I have run I have crawled, I have scaled these city walls, These city walls, Only to be with you”, is saying that he has looked everywhere for the thing to fill his life. The man is also telling us of what he has done, not what Jesus has done, what he has done is not satisfying to his soul. Only through Jesus do we find true satisfaction. This is why he can’t find what he is looking for. This is why this shows post modernism. The reason why I'm sorry i wrote that latter part is because, yes, even honest-hearted and generally faithful and truth-prone persons can develop spiritual frustrations (i.e., complaints) due to not understanding different aspects of "what's going on" spiritually. Also, there's a lot of thought-provoking secular music on that same "universal", all-important issue. But - are people meant to STAY that way? Being "stuck in a moment" - in a spiritual rut - is one thing (and again, its been the subject of many deep-thoughted songs); but for 20 years, even in this globalized, "information age"??? Jehovah/ Yahweh doesn't leave those TRULY searching for him or trying to carry forward with doing his will whole-souled. He helps such persons to "find" him and/ or his scriptural-spiritual guidance. For those seeking to learn the scriptural truth - knowledge about God and Christ that "means everlasting life"; Jah sees that they are brought into contact with those preaching it. However, we ARE living in the time when God said EVERYONE would be given an opportunity to learn - to FIND his scriptural truth and then follow it. (Matthew 24:14 and more.) So, each person will be held accountable to God for how they respond to WHAT THEY SHOULD BE LOOKING FOR. What about responsibility to others though? Is it right to lead stadiumfuls of crowds to sing-chant-respond - as if they should agree - that they too "still haven't found what [they're] looking for". This IS "the end of the world" - the end of the last days of Satan's grip over this world system. God will soon be crashing its corrupt "foundations" to the ground. (See Daniel 2:44; Revelation chapters 17-19.) To survive that time will require Divine protection. God's given standard is that he will protect those who "know" him; who call on his holy, personal name; and who OBEY him and his Son. (2Thessalonians 1:6-8; John 3:36) The "flip-side" of that is that he will NOT be protecting those who don't "know" and obey him and his Son. So, in other words, again ; Jehovah-Yahweh has PURPOSED that people "FIND what they [SHOULD] be looking for" NOW. He's actively making global provisions for people to be able to learn what they need to know. But, its each individual's choice - what they will do with God's scriptural messages when they come their way. God can and will call any person's "bluff" over doing their best to "find" him, to learn and obey what his will is - (Proverbs 2:22-33) [PLEASE read] 22 “How long will YOU inexperienced ones keep loving inexperience, and [how long] must YOU ridiculers desire for yourselves outright ridicule, and [how long] will YOU stupid ones keep hating knowledge? 23 Turn back at my reproof. God does, that's who. Who LOVES to promote spiritual APATHY and "excuse"-fulness for TURNING AWAY from God due to the lies and corrupt works of FALSE religions in this world though? When "Losing my Religion" came rolling through the air, I saw it USED as an ANTHEM for some to TURN AWAY from God, as their hearts were looking for "EXCUSES" to do, so that they could WORSHIP their OWN DESIRES (for fornication, etc.) rather than obey God - what they knew, even at the level of inborn conscience, is his standard. Again, the ready-made (by Satan), convenient "EXCUSE" for people to use to lose "their religion" - but really their spirituality, natural proddings of their consciences, and what they KNEW to be God's scriptural commands and principles? The antics of anti-scriptural FALSE religions. These types of devices worked together "well" to take a lot of people "down", I believe, to further ALIENATE them from God from the doing of his will. It left people feeling "free" to IDOLIZE themselves and there own desires. (A problem is, however, that course, eventually, surely becomes or will become A GREAT LET-DOWN.) LOSING one's FALSE (anti-scriptural) religion would be a GOOD thing. Many people have wisely done that after honest-heartedy searching for God's truth, finding it, and then following through with minding it once they've found it. But, to turn against ALL religions - even Jehovah/ Yahweh's ONE scriptural TRUE religion, as per his own terms of worship - because of the presence of anti-scriptural FALSE religions and their ugly harm and injustice in this now Devil-run world IS NOT RIGHT. People are NOT free/ excused from their natural, rightful obligation to God Almighty the Creator to look for and then obey his truth just because of the works of Satan in this world system. People are meant to look beyond Satan's deceptive propaganda and seek and obey their Maker ANYWAY. It is for these same reasons that John Lennon's "Imagine" song is spiritually dangerous. ALL religion - namely, Jehovah/ Yahweh's TRUE, scriptural religion - does NOT belong being trashed, disregarded, and snubbed because of the injustices and RUIN Satan-inspired FALSE religions (especially FALSE [counterfeit, Christ-disobedient] "Christianity") have plagued mankind with. The bad ways of FALSE religions are NO EXCUSE for persons not to search out and then obey the will of their Maker. God says we all must. Every human being truly owes that to him. It is a matter of natural, rightful GRATITUDE - for being alive, for the beautiful things of creations around us, etc. "Still Haven't Found..."? Look at the things the songwriter says he tried in his "search" for God. "Spoke in the tongues of angels", aka "speaking in tongues." Speaking in tongues by God's spirit ended with death of the last apostles. Since then, what has "inspired" it is NOT God's holy spirit, but demons (FALLEN, Satan-sided angels) instead. It is spiritism, and so is sure to produce disappointing, bad results. "Felt the healing fingertips. They burned like fire..." This describes "faith healing." Is it from God? NO, it is NOT. Again, it is an involvement in SPIRITISM, and again, as with "speaking in tongues", it is still practiced by a large number of so-called "Christians", though Jesus Christ would have and does fully repudiate its basis, which is demon-power, NOT God's holy spirit, despite the claims of its adherents. A relative of mine did get "worked on" by a "faith healer." Their description was similar - a kind of burning, electric feeling. However, people "helped" this way are NEVER lastingly helped, and many are HURT - especially spiritually. Like "speaking in tongues", it is a scam by demons to "get" people to "beLIEve" in God-disobedient spiritism; so that they turn away and/ or stay away from him, to hurt God, Jesus, and themselves. Straight out spiritism - holding "the hand of the Devil"; or engaging in other known-to-be-God-disobedient/ defiant behavior (which pleases God's Adversary), such as that which can be "warm in the night" (like fornication) - would that even logically bring one CLOSER to God, to "be with" him? OF COURSE NOT. Only more disappointment and feeling more "cold like a stone" should even be expected. So can it really, honestly be said that someone trying to "find" God through the above means has "DONE ALL THEY CAN" to seek him, to do his will; that they have REALLY put honest-hearted, whole-souled effort into trying to develop TRUE "FAITH", but have gotten "nothing back", and so have a high right to so sing about and sell their complaint to the world [which would largely agree]? "Imagine" sold "Losing my Religion" sold. "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" sells. "One" sells. Other songs can surely be added to that list, for the same reasons. You see, we live in the time when it was prophesied that most people would be "having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power....always learning AND YET NEVER ABLE TO COME TO AN ACCURATE KNOWLEDGE OF TRUTH" (2Timothy 3:5,7) People would look for teachers of pseudo-spirituality - persons would tickle their ears with what is anti-scriptural, "in the name of God", but who would teach accomodations for people's desires for what God's own words (in reality) discipline and/ or condemn as unrighteous. (2Timothy 4:3,4) Many would look for and "accept" ANYTHING BUT God's SCRIPTURAL TRUTH to "fill [their] God-shaped hole", as another U2 song says. For God's own words (and messengers of them) they would even show hate. (John 15:18-21; 17:14-18) Is any of this any excuse for people to continue to "exempt" themselves from their natural obligation to seek out, listen for, and OBEY their Creator's will as it inevitably presents itself and comes their way? Creation is a testament to God. His written world is a necessary, purposed follow-up to that. News of it is going out all over the world now, in these last days, just like God said it would. (Matthew 24:14) So - will there be any "excuse" left, quite soon (even now) for persons to keep turning away from God's scriptural truth itself, to keep on singing AND SINGING ALONG IN AGREEMENT WITH "I still haven't found what I'm looking for"? God is just. Though only those found knowing and obeying him and his Son will survive Armageddon; he IS having the whole world fairly WARNED at this time to QUIT PUTTING OFF listening to and obeying him, because he DOES have scriptural requirements for those he will let live on in his righteous new world system here on earth (the REAL, scripturally-described, heaven-based, Christ (NOT man)-run, "KINGDOM COME"). (2Thessalonians 1:6-8; Ezekiel 3:17-21; Matthew 6:10) TIME IS NEARLY UP for people to "find" what they're "looking for", since Jehovah's truth (vs man's spirtual falsehoods) IS being made known globally and is well within the "reach" of nearly everyone now. Jesus' story of the prodigal son only ended happily because didn't just keep wandering off from what was right; but turned around to do what was right. Further, there will soon come to be a not-exactly known, but certain "cut-off" time (the start of the "great tribulation") for anyone to change from being a "wanderer" to being a person that is obedient to God, a doer of his word. So DO NOT WAIT. Despite what others choose to do, "find" - discover what Jehovah/ Yahweh God has already purposely provided.
