I actually live in Bobcaygeon. It's the best place on earth. I wouldn't trade this town for anything on the planet. It's home to the first locks ever built on the trent severn waterway. Just a little trivia there for anyone who cares lol.

Q: Bobcaygeon is a town in canada can you fill us in on that before we hear the tune?
Gord's Answer: " Yeah, small town, lots of stars, you can use any town you want. Bobcaygeon rhymes with constellation. "
one star at a time | Reviewer: Rich | 1/16/08
What resonates for me, and the time in my life when I first heard this song is in the line "I saw the Constellations reveal themselves, one star at a time"
all I can think of when I hear it is that patterns in life...the bigger picture... the Contellations... are sometimes made up of so many small things, that you can't necessarily see until you have the perspective of time to see them.. and being in the right place (Bobcaygeon) with the proper clarity... Also makes me think about the nature of Constellations...they aren't anything other than an idea, between human beings, transcending time and space... if you have the eyes to see them, and recognize the patterns in the chaos... I don't know.. I think Gord's a goddamn genius...nuff said I suppose...

The song is about a Mountie that's feeling depressed and smothered in his life and maybe thinking about leaving his job and wife behind, but then during the riots, where he was an officer on duty to keep the peace, during the chaos and violence she was the only thing he could think of, so he sort of had a life-reaffirming moment, "the constellations revealed themselves one star at a time", and went back to her that night instead of leaving town.
Burdi | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/15/07
It's actually referring to what happened in toronto with george burdi and the Anti-racist action.
George and his "neo-nazi/white supremacist" band gave a concert. (hence aryan twang)
After his band's concert, George kicked an ARA girl in the face and broke her nose.
This led to him being arrested, going to jail and "reforming".
Meaning of "Bobcaygeon" | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/28/07
Fans all know that Bobcaygeon is a town north of Toronto.
in the song... Bobcaygeon is a town where the author finds solace and realization slowly and peacefully ..." one star at a time"
In Toronto the Crowne Plaza Hotel has a checkerboard floor and has hosted conferences for Holocost denial groups. I imagine the man they couldn't hang is Zundel an in-famous holocost denialist. Some say the man they couldn't hang is the name of a band in the UK. This is true but I cannot see a connection to Canada or the hip. So when they say "the men they could'nt hang stepped up to the mic", and "voices rang with an Arian twang" I think they are talking about the Crowne Plaza conferences.
What is the Hip's relation to Bobcaygeon? | Reviewer: thip | 9/20/07
what do you think this song is about and why the hell can't i stop listening to it? It reminds me of how one moment can be solidified in your mind forever. Something about leaving this girls house brought him to this revelation of where he is in life, and it happened in Bobcaygen. What's Bobcaygen like? I first heard this leaving a girl's house at a croassraods in my life, that;s why it resonates. I'm going to stop now.
