Nation | Reviewer: David Herzog | 3/25/08
I agree this has a lot of emotion put into it...its one of my favorite songs... im a sophmore in high school and i can relate to this song alot i mean somewhere along we all had someone fight in the military to protect this country. in my JROTC there was a quote on the board that i liked it said, "One Nation, One Pain. Our Sorrow, Their Shame"
Corrupted | Reviewer: David Herzog | 3/25/08
as much as i love this country, and one day i will fight for it, it is corrupted. i mean with government and all this other crap. i mean as i said im a sophmore, but i wqaant to klnow about how my education is going to be affected. instead of the future of america, the students, they focus on others. yes there is a war and i personally believe it is going to be world war 3, but people don't want to bring up this topic because they are afraid if the mess up with schooling that we wont vote for them. well bullsh*t we need it and well i had litlle faith in our country. then i heard this song then i remembered why we are corrupted. we are in a crisis and need to support this crisis because without support we wont be free. the troops need to know that we are out here and know that we dont take them forgranted. we are fighting each other in here and some cant focus on out there. you know i once heard that war is not an interuption in peace, but peace is an interuption in war. basically toby has every right to be mad. his da, my grandpa, and several people in are or have family in the military at some point. this song encouraged me not give up faith on my country and hopefully it will do the same for some other.
MAY GOD BE WITH THE TROOPS AND THEIR FAMILY!
Its. Just. A. Flag. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/8/08
To Mark:
The major flaw in your last post was assuming that I am an American, which I am not. I'm a Canadian citizen. I didn't really think it was relevant. And please, don't get into some big "America is better than Canada because blah blah blah" thing. I don't care. I don't endorse Canada or any other country. Civil war spreads in Africa, sure, just like it did in 19th century U.S.A. People in Asia starve, yeah, as do many of the 13% of Americans living below the poverty line. I'm not really trying to criticize the United States here, I'm just saying it's ignorant to think it's flawless. I've traveled all over the U.S., I like it a lot, good people, beautiful places. But it IS a bit of a frightening place to a visitor. Most citizens like to just let the wool fall over their eyes and do what their told. Again, spookily similar to Nazi Germany. Lastly Mark, a flag IS just a flag. It's a piece of cloth, and I'd proudly wipe my ass with any nation's. I'm not really sure if anyone died for your flag, at least since you won your independence, but you should be pissed off if they did. Really, what's one war in your independent history that really had anything to do with freedom and safety in the United States? Saddam Hussein was a tyrant and a murderer, but he didn't have a chance in hell of taking your piece of cloth away from you. In the end, one tyrant just replaced the other.
Emotionaly Charged | Reviewer: Jim T | 1/11/08
No doubt Toby's song is charged with emotion. It expresses how we as a nation hurt from the result of 9/11 and the loss of our wonderful men and women who continue to put their lives on the line for their fellow citizens.
For me, it stirs feelings of guilt and of lack of gratitude for our veterans who sacrificed so much for us on so many levels.
Overall I feel the song goes beyond the obvious.
I don't put a face to the anger that the words are aimed at. I like to sing along with this song and join in with wanting to kick some ass to end the way we as people treat one another.
Looking at all the comments that are offered here, I guess Toby offered us a chance to take it all in and think about it. We all can thump our chests as say we're right, but to make this a better world starts with us as individuals and how we treat one another.
Cant YOU think?? | Reviewer: mark | 12/27/07
To the 12/13/2007 poster...
What's the point of living in this country if you have no pride in your own country. Be proud of your country and look at the good it has given you. America has given us freedom of speech and wants.
Look at the other countries surrounding us. Civil war spreads in Arfica, people in Asia starve. We (you *cough*) should be proud in just having the opertunity in even living in this country.
And furthermore a flag is not just a flag. Our flag is a symbol of power in the United States of America. People died to protect this flag/country. You should be totaly ashamed about even posting this blog.

Hmmm | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/13/07
Artistically, there's nothing special here. No great lyrical revelations. It does a good job expressing Keith's anger after 9/11, but the anger seems to reflect a sort of blindness and ignorance as well. I really don't find much to agree or disagree with because there isn't a lot of substance in this song to agree or disagree with. It sounds more like a jingle for a truck commercial. The thing that I find a little bit scary is the propaganda laced into the song. Patriotism scares me, because what patriotism does is turn everybody into little sheep. Patriotism is just another word for nationalism, and nationalism, my friends, was used by the Nazis to turn Germany into an unthinking war machine. A flag is just a flag. We all live on Earth, we are all human, and we have to realize that our countries and laws and governments are all very short term illusions we've created. Think for yourselves, question everything.
JJ u can go 2 hell u fucking ass | Reviewer: nate | 11/28/07
Why the fuck do you have a fucking problem with this song u bastard. How in the hell can you say that shit. You are a discrace to the united states. First of all no one is innocent. Every one has made mistakes, and ur making a big one. Its nice to know that you dissrespect the song, because ive been in iraq for 4 years now you dont want to know the things that i have seen, and had to do to live. This song is one of the few things that make us feel better. Because this man is showing respect for our country and, he has inspired many of my comrades without them id be dead by now. A man willing to write a song in tribute to his country and to all members of the military should be respected. Oh by the way keep ur fucking opinions to yourself
wooo hoo! | Reviewer: hello | 9/26/07

An Angry American | Reviewer: JJ | 9/20/07
Toby Keith Is certainly an Angry American, the song is full of raw emotion. Unfortunately Keith's anger prevents him from critically examining the issue, and as a result the song feels ignorant and offensive instead of patriotic. The only information given about the "enemy" is in the line "A mighty sucker punch came flying in from somewhere in the back" enforcing the stereotype that Americans cannot identify Afghanistan on a map. It gives the impression that Keith blames the entire middle east for 9/11 and lines like "Man, we lit up your world like the 4th of July" trivialize the deaths of innocent civilians in Afghanistan whose only crime was sharing a country with terrorists. Their deaths were just as tragic as those in the world trade center. I find it disheartening that a song that's purpose is to unite us and support this country and it's troops cannot rise above the cloud of anger and fear that 9/11 created. When we lash out in fear and ignorance, the terrorists win.
Excellent | Reviewer: Mary | 9/8/07
This song brings tears to my eyes. Thanks to Toby for reminding us that support for our troops is essential. This is the whole reason I had to see Toby Keith in concert. Phoenix 9/07 Believe me, Toby Keith's fans support our troops- the audience LOVES this song-we sang louder than Toby could.
