I felt so bad when my cousin stacy died cause she was only 26 and she had 3 kids and a husband who was really nice. I will be going to her funeral tomorrow and i dont know how i am going to take it but me and my cousin stacy used to sing this song together all the time and she oved this song so thanks toby. Every soldier that has fallen, closed his eyes for the last time, or heard the crack of the gun knew, this is the price. Every man and women in the uniform knows with pride that this is what they chose to do and it's not something you can give up. Sleeping in cramped quarters and sacrificing everything to make our nation and others free. That single word isn't even a word that many countries can't even muster up the courage to say. We have no idea what they have to go through. Sure, you can look at videos, but does that go into the soldiers hearts and minds? No. Leaving the family behind, it cracks the heart, but knowing that you've been giving other people a better life, and even better, a chance to live in a nation that they're proud to live in, that mends it. Mr. Keith, you've really given the world an outstanding perspective of what these people deal with day after day, and what it's like to have to wake up in the morning wondering ,"When will I see my family again?" People dont know how hard it is to see mates die and to have survived when your mates have died thats the hardes thing and you wouldnt wish it on anybody. My grandfather was also a Master Sergent in the United States Marine Corps, he just recently passed away, but after hearing your song it reminded him of Vietnam and he said that this song made him want to put on his old uniform and join the troops.
