THE CARIBBEAN ISLANDS
The Caribbean Islands are a renowed tourist attraction. Known for their white sandy beaches, abundant sunshine, and panoramic ocean views, the islands are a peaceful getaway for thousands of Caribbean tourists. Barbados, the Cayman Islands, and Jamaica are featured in this month’s newsletter.
Barbados
If you are looking for a picturesque island consider Barbados. “Powdery beaches line the waters of the calm Caribbean Sea on the west coast, while the waves of the Atlantic thunder in one the eastern shore.” (Fodor’s 1991, 144)
With elegant hotels, tours, fine restaurants and shopping options, Barbados is one of the preferred islands in the Caribbean. Spectator sports such as cricket, horse racing, polo, and soccer are also available to tourists. If you are more interested in participant sports, try windsurfing, scuba diving, and horseback riding.
Jamaica
If you are looking for long sandy beaches, historic landmarks, and a sun-drenched climate, consider Jamaica. With an average temperature of 80 degrees, it is a vacation paradise.
As can be expected, winter (December through April) brings larger crowds and higher rates than the other seasons. The finer hotels are generally located on the north of the island. However, for the budget-conscious traveler, Jamaica offers several package deals for selected resort areas. Package deals make it possible to stay at several resort areas during your visit.
Jamaica offers over two hundred miles of beaches. With a few exceptions, most of the beaches are relatively quiet and uncrowded. Some of the more popular beaches include Cornwall. Beach, Walter Fletcher Beach in Montego Bay, Puerto Seco at Discovery Bay, the seven-mile strip in Negril, Mallards Beach in Ocho Rios, and Boston Beach.
