Keep it simple people | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/13/09
The song 'Happy Jack' was about a simple man, not a crab and nothing to do with mythology! Lived in the sands on the Isle of Man, played with the kids who tormented him, but Jack was happy. Simple.
Let it be Crab. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/9/09

>My Father thinks the song Happy Jack is about a crab. Is that right>
I realy like that interpretation, simple, at first glance whimsical, yet consistent and profound in it's own way.
Kudos to your father.
There'll always be a Union, Jack | Reviewer: John from IL | 9/3/08
Happy Jack represents Great Britain whose flag Pete wore proudly as a jacket in the early days of the Who. He may sing in the wrong key, but ridicule from other nations bothers him not. Jack cannot be stopped from going his own way, just as the lapping waves cannot be stopped. That's also a reference to the ancient Saxon king Canute, whose courtiers flattered him excessively. To show he was human and not divine, he had his throne placed at the sea's edge and "commanded" the waves to recede. As the tide was coming in, Canute's order to the English Channel breakers was ignored.
English | Reviewer: Todd | 4/2/08
I think the best thing about this song & The Who is that their sound was so English & original. Compared to the other great English rock bands of the time The Beatles, The Rolling Stones etc whom were more so copying the American rock n' roll sound, The Who's work wasn't American sounding at all.
"I saw you" | Reviewer: Jimmy | 3/5/08
When Pete says this at the end of the song, it is because Keith tried to get in the room to sing vocals after he was banned because they wouldn't let him, when he tried to sneak in, Pete said this to him.

It's about a mentally retarded adult who is picked on by kids, but is so simple he doesn't get their rudeness, and thinks they're playing with him.
He might have been christian, but I hadn't read that in the Who books I've read.
(I saw ya) | Reviewer: Dion Phaneuf Fan | 1/29/08
When "I saw ya" is said at the end of the song, That's because Keith Moon was in the studio making faces at them throughout the song trying to get them to laugh...They couldn;t hold in their laughter , And they shouted "I saw ya"
John Kanieck's Review | Reviewer: john kaniecki | 11/16/07
Happy Jack is a song about a Christian whom the CIA among others would try to kill and destroy with their lies. But they couldn't prevent Jack from being happy. If you don't know why people with power would want to kill a Christian than you should really contemplate what Jesus said and not what some asshole tells you that Jesus said. Start reading in the book of Mathew chapters 5,6 and 7. The time to reveal the truth is almost at hand and has begun.
By the way don't tell me "I don't know Jack" because I did. He was a very kind, gentle and loving man.
Oh by the way hello to all you lovely government people. I wish you a very nice day.
Love,
John
Sing / take / wrong key? | Reviewer: Billy Blagg | 8/14/07
I thought it was:-
"The kids would all say that he'd sing the wrong key" and
"They couldn't prevent Jack o'er the waters laughing" (laugh, laugh, laugh etc.)
which makes some sort of sense (although I'm not sure I should get so fussy about a song chronicling the life of a man who rides donkeys on the beach on the Isle of Man!
But thanks anyway - it's taken me 30 odd years to find out that 'He lived on the sand at the ISLE OF MAN' :)
