It's about how The Used used to be in Utah, and they hated it... Coming from highly conservative families, they felt like it was holding them back, and this song is about how they broke free, left all that behind them, and starting touring. Listen to the first verse, especially these lines: "The taste of ink is getting old It's four o' clock in the fucking morning" -- This is meaning they can't get inspiration for their songs in boring old Utah, staying up all night trying to think of ideas... The "taste of ink" is frustration, biting on the end of a pen. Each day gets more and more like the last day Still I can see it coming While I'm standing in the river drowning" This is saying it's getting worse everyday they're there, it's all the same stuff over and over, but they can see the light, they can see they'll get out, but while they're there, it feels like they're drowning in a river. "This could be my chance to break out This could be my chance to say goodbye At last it's finally over Couldn't take this town much longer Being half dead wasn't what I planned to be Now I'm ready to be free" This is when they actually leave, get out of there, "At last it's finally over" they're happy they're old enough to get out of there... "Being half dead wasn't what I planned to be" Being there was like being half dead, they couldn't pursue their dream of being The Used.
