He doesn't believe in god. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/25/09

And Countless odd religions, too
It doesn't matter which you choose (oh no)
One stubborn way to turn your back (oh-ho)
This I've tried and now refuse (oh-ho)

He's saying that if you choose a religion, it's just being stubburon, not a specific religion.

Religion is just an excuse to be shitty and convince yourself every thing is okay.

He may have BEEN religious in the past but my understanding is he is not anymore because he realizes how STUBBORN religion is and how your turning your back on a lot of great things in life when you are religious.

the title says exactly what they are trying to tell us and for religion hes saying they all at the most fundemental aspects mean the same thing. the chorus seems to be about how if you just listen to someone with your full attention we all mainly make sense so we can all get along

another possible interpretation | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/12/09

the guy was an alcoholic...maybe this song was about him expressing the conclusions that he made about life after going through the ordeal of alcoholism...i think it makes sense...its a possiblility

My intepretation | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/10/09

basically in my intepretation of the song i dont see it as very religious just a mere understanding of differences between man and yeah like someone said before how people talk to much. In this song he doesnt even mention religion till the last verse where he says "And Countless odd religions, too
It doesn't matter which you choose (oh no)
One stubborn way to turn your back (oh-ho)
This I've tried and now refuse (oh-ho)"
meaning he once refused to believe in god (stubborn) and now he realizes its good to believe in him...to end the whole religious dispute.

I didn't don't know who the guy who wrote, "Christ also likes taking your money and having his priests rape little boys!

Christ does not exist. He is a character from a story, nothing more. Notice that people still get murdered, raped and disasters happen? WHERE'S YOUR GOD? Certainly not protecting his followers, especially their children."

I'm not even going to point out the obvious logic flaws in your statement seeing as though I only feel like dedicating a few minutes to this as opposed to the entire night. Well, first you missed a comma after 'raped'. Then there's the whole incident of putting you next sentence in completely nothing but caps. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but no matter how loud you shout stupid things that doesn't make them intellectual or anymore worth reading. I don't care if you want to go bashing Christians out of some personal vendetta that, from what I can tell, only you understand. But please figure out to make:
1. An argument that isn't made completely out of sheer ignorance.
2. A complete sentence.

i think you guys are all going a little overboard here...it's a beautiful song; end of story. it actually helped my bf and i get through a rough patch, weird as that it. be it about Christ, about God, about whatever...it is merely one man's expression of how he feels, and however you choose to interpret it is great, but remember that it is merely YOUR interpretation, and by no means does anyone else need to agree, so don't put down others beliefs, but don't preach yours either. just love the song, love your choices about your life, and smile.

Re: Really? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/15/08

Sometimes, God isn't always there.
And I understand that some people can tell others that you just have to let him in your heart.
And I kind of believe that's very true.
But, bad things will always happen to good people, because shit happens and music will always be there, because music's the only thing that makes sense anymore. Everyone interprets things differently and this song is to me, a beautiful hymn with Jules' voice and the crazy guitar solo. It shatters my negative thoughts and makes me smile.

And I'm pretty sure everyone else, can say the same damn thing and truly mean it.

cool | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/17/08

hey dude, what philosophy?all the philosophy i see is that sometimes we talk to much, everybody is different and explains their feelings and emotions different. i.e "Oh, men don't notice what they got
Oh, women think of that a lot...
A thousand ways to please your man (oh-ho)
Not even one requires a plan (I know)"
meaning that if we listen to each other and comunicate in nice ways then we will all achieve a better social understanding and everything, dont get me wrong i am a christian and i what what ur feeling and dont get this as a diss or sumthing like dat i just wanna see what ur take on this song is.awesome song by the way!=p
