By Pages:   1    2    Add Your New Review About The Song The Reviews about On The Other Side (page 1/ 2) ------ performed by The Strokes obviously | Reviewer: lee | 8/13/09 i have heard and felt these exact feelings before. while going through what i can only imagine to be a similar experience to julian whilst touring this album. theres a pattern that emerges throughout which is synonimous with borederline alcoholism, which can be most prevalent on, not only the 2nd verse here but also tracks such as 'fear of sleep'. when going through some proper crap, which i still do, to do with booze, these 3 words resonate with me a lot. going to bed is scary. thats when the demons come, and they wake you up dead early just to fuck your day up. you can also tell by the delivery in his voice on this record that he's pissed.for sure. i know, i sing like him a bit, but not for the want of trying, for the want of not.this album is one of my favourite albums of all time because of the crap you can hear coming out of his mouth, not even a strokes fan, but a fan of the honesty in it, and if someone could prove to met that they even remember recording most of this record then i'd probably love it less. but i bet they cant. ive heard and said these words a thousand times, but i guess maybe only drunks want to hear them so theyre not alone. better the strokes than the heebie-jeebies. hope you've fixed it all. This is a semi-autobiographical song penned by Julian (the lead singer of the band) about alcohol but also about fitting in and tolerating the world even when you are disgusted by it. He's in a 'catch-22', hating the crowd he goes out with for pressuring him to drink and thus forcing him into this dark corner where he knows he begins to loathe everything; at the same time, he struggles to accept others and the way the world is, half knowing that this world is inescapable and that to survive it and live with himself, he must tolerate it. A song about suicide is probably more hopefully - because, distorted as it may be, the narrator believes there is a way out - whereas here, the narrator understands that he is shackled where he is, and must learn to cope with it.
