ummm...i don't think he's saying he literally took chords and lyrics from another song to make strokes songs. i think he's talking about a time when his writing was starting to suffer from drinking and drugs back during the making of "Room on Fire". i think he's retelling a kind of intervention that was attempted by the rest of the band back in '03. and someone is confronting him about his addictions and telling him his songs are starting to sound like everyone else's. because of his drug abuse he's dulling his creative senses. maybe? that's how i took it anyway. and then someone important to him probably told him he shouldn't let the band break up and just get sober instead because "you belong on the radio". and he agrees with them and says "i was just returning you a compliment" by writing this song.

I wish two drinks were always in me
I'd pretend I had the perfect ear
Take me to the water
Make me understand
That I was wrong
For me tomorrow is my first day
So please don't tempt me in the wrong way
this song is about Julian's drinking problem, and how shortly after Reptilia the band nearly broke up because of it, he's asking for the support of the band, to help him understand he was wrong, don't tempt him.
Great song! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/22/2007
Actually this song is my favorite from F.I.E.!!!
Great singing(as always), nice harmony, in one word- HIT!
Decent... plagerism? | Reviewer: Briana | 2/15/2007
I'm a fan of the strokes... I just got their F.I.E album (I know I'm late). I was kind of noticing the lyrics often contain pieces where they admit they don't have anything to write in a song. This one says they heard the cords from another song... I was actually thinking that before I heard that section of the lyrics. Overall this song is average. Not really memorable.
