Pure kitchen sink brilliance. Such utterly poignant phrasing - what a terrible shame that it was never recorded properly (outside that leaden Troy Tate session, that is). The Billy Bragg version comes closest to doing this song justice, but a would have loved a better composed take by The Smiths.
