Why Not Stick With The BBC Session? | Reviewer: Liam | 11/20/2008
Not long before The Smiths decided to record this song in the studio the leaders of the gang Morrissey and Marr had a quick go at it for the BBC. A song so new it still gleamed and gleam it did. A haunting rendition of childhood fears and memories from Morrissey as Marr guitar sets the scence with notes sounding like a childs music box with it's nice tune becoming sad and sinester in its age as it sits in the old house, covered in spiders webs with the dark, wind and rain crashing against the window it sits beside.
The take was perfect and even the squeaks of Marrs guitar actually being imperfections they somehow seem to fit.
From this take you may wonder why it never became as well regarded in The Smiths history as '...Please Let Me Get What I Want'. Well it seems when it was decided to add the bass and drums in the studio is where it all fell apart. It just never fit and they couldn't release the BBC version at the time because they wouldn't want the BBC to get a chunk of the royalities. As such a great song is stuck in the lower card of The Smiths discography but when this recording is still around then forget and enjoy cos The Smiths at there best is still the best!
