Not too shabby! | Reviewer: Paul | 6/6/07
Yeah, they definately have something with this one. I've always believed that the music comes first. You can have the most eloquent, sophisticated lyrics written - if the music aint't there in the first place, forget it. This is one of those songs that just mesmerizes me musically - I think it's awesome from that standpoint. The lyrics however are wierd indeed - hard to figure just what is being said or what the writer wants us to "see" - I'm somewhat of a stickler for detail so I'll study the words and try to make some sense... Meanwhile, they can keep on making music like this and I won't complain. It should be interesting to see how they grow upon us - I think we're in for a treat! Peace y'all!
don't usually enjoy this "type" of music | Reviewer: Broton Thompson | 5/17/07
I'm not normally a fan of stuff this poppy, but the Shins really add something extra, especially with this song. I love the melodies and the way the whole song evolves and acquires extra dimensions as it progresses, building a picture of a bygone era. A bit over the top? This song is over the top with its quality
What the hexx are they singin' bout? | Reviewer: The Gig, Oslo-Norway | 5/16/07

Lovely | Reviewer: doom | 5/14/07
this is a great song, and bulbshitg, there is no such thing as a Connells rip off. Peter Noon and The Beatles helped write the popular rulebook on this type of tune in the early 1960's, and its been updated and reworked to suit the artist's tastes and available tech since then by anyone from Fleetwood Mac to The Pretenders, The Smiths, Luna, and even Swervedriver (Go listen to "These Times"). Its odd someone would even use the Connells as a point of reference for this style of song. Larry there have been plenty of great rock groups that could sing and were great musicians, I have no idea what you've been listening to.
good stuff | Reviewer: Eric | 4/23/07
I liked the Connells, but the Shins have something extra. Yes the voices are similar and I hear the jangle the bands have in common, but Mercer has the best voice on the radio. And he's blessed with a gift for melody that reminds me of McCartney, Neil Finn, early Westerberg.. love it!
Listen over and over | Reviewer: Eric | 4/23/07

Refreshing | Reviewer: SHAWN | 4/18/07
To the guy below who calls the Shins Connells ripoffs - get over it! The Connells were great, but guess what? They weren't anything unique - they were jingly jangly ripoffs of all the other jingly jangly pop artists of the past. We are all influenced by other people's art. The Shins are one of the best things going right now.
Great Song | Reviewer: Dangerous | 4/13/07
